SAM'S POV
I woke up before Kelly, Summer, and Alice. I grabbed a nearby throw pillow and started sliding out from under Alice. I planned on putting the pillow under her head. She stirred and squeezed my torso.
"Don't leave me, Sammy..."
She whined, barely above a whisper.
"I have to get my bags ready to go on my trip. You could come if you want."
She opened her gorgeous eyes and looked up at me.
"I have to send them home, but I'd love to get more one on one with my Sammy."
I gently brush the mess of hair out of her face.
"Let them sleep. Leave a note. I'd love more one on one time with you too."
I kissed her forehead and continued sliding out from under her. As I left the room, I could hear Kelly moving around and I stopped in the hallway, out of sight to hear what was gonna be said. I could hear Kelly sit up and then she spoke.
"You're toying with him and it's not cool. You have a boyfriend and you didn't even realize he liked you until yesterday when we told you. He's the perfect boyfriend material and you won't commit. Either you break up with Jason and fully commit to Sam, or I'll tell them both the truth and try my hand with Sam. I'd love to be cherished by him. You're taking advantage."
Alice sounded frustrated when she responded.
"What do you know about Sam?! He's never gonna stop loving me."
"But do you love him? If you don't, you should tell him. He shouldn't be lead on."
"Of course, I do. I just, fear Jason more."
"What do you mean?"
"He hurts me."
"Hurts you, how?"
"He has a temper and when he doesn't like something I do or say and we're alone, he'll cut me or bruise me in places that others won't see."
"Then dump him."
"Yeah, that's a good way to have him follow through with the threats he's made."
"Well, you have people who will support you. You've gotta do it soon, because if Sam finds out what Jason's doing, he'll kill him. You know he will."
I was getting so angry at the conversation that I went upstairs before I could hear anything else. I was getting my stuff together when there was a knock at my door. My aunt came in and sat down on my bed.
"So, what's the deal with you and Alice?"
I sigh and groan.
"Ugh, I don't know. I love her and would literally die for her, but I haven't gotten confirmation that she feels the same way. It's so damn frustrating!"
My aunt just nods.
"Can I tell you something, Aunt Charlotte?"
"Of course, sweetie." She looked just like my mom when she smiled at me.
"We had s*x last night, and it felt like a cap had been screwed off a shaken soda. There was an explosion of emotion. But, when she's around everyone else, I know she's gonna pretend nothing happened."
I looked at my aunt and she levitated a box of tissues to herself. I guess she was crying for me. I didn't know we could do the same things.
"You can move things with your mind, too?"
"Absolutely! I'll teach so much more too! Get ready kid, you'll be a full blown witch in no time."
She got up and started to leave the room.
"There's no way, she could reject you after finding out. That explosion means she does love you, she just doesn't know how to say it."
With that, she left the room and 30 minutes later, she hollered at me from the bottom of the stairs.
"Come on, Sam, we're leaving! Oh, and, we have a tag along."
I grinned from ear to ear and headed downstairs with my suitcase and backpack in tow. We left in my dad's SUV. An hour into the drive, we stopped at the gas station. My dad went in for snacks, drinks, and a pack of cigarettes. My aunt went in to use the restroom and get some crossword puzzle books. They were like a dollar and super small. While they were in the store, Alice leaned over and kissed me. Soon, she was straddling my lap and grinding on me.
I got stuck in my head, and pushed her off, not feeling it anymore.
"What the hell, Sam?!"
"I'm just tired..."
I scooted away from her and leaned against the door, closing my eyes. She punched me in the arm.
"Liar, there's something up with you. You've barely spoken to me since we got in the car and you haven't made eye contact with me."
"Does he really hit you?"
"What? Who?"
Sudden realization crossed her features. She grabbed my jaw and gently turned my head to face her.
"You were listening earlier, weren't you?"
I nodded.
"Oh, Sammy, I'm okay. I'll leave him as soon as I get the courage. Don't worry about me, okay?"
I leaned my forehead against hers.
"I'll always worry about you." I said, so quietly that you'd have to strain to hear it.
She definitely heard what I said and kisses me gently. It was like an unspoken thank you. I looked up and saw Aunt Charlotte coming back to the car before dad and started pulling myself from Alice.
"Don't bother, I can tell she knows."
"How?"
"Woman's intuition."
"Haha, of course."
Alice leaned on me while I leaned against the door. We held hands but tried to do it where Dad couldn't see. He got in with a huff and the whole rest of the trip we listened to him complain to Charlotte about the price of things rising as we got further out of Salem. I saw him glance in the rearview and I thought I saw a grin on his face. He looked back at the road and spoke.
"I haven't seen the two of you lean on each other or even hold hands since you were 12."
"Yeah, I guess she just wants to feel like she's 12 again."
I glance over at the sleeping girl. She's smiling from comfort. I haven't seen her smile in her sleep in years. After 3 hours of sitting in a car, we finally got to the cabin and we we're able to take our stuff in.
"Hey, Alice, we're here."
She woke up and blinked at me a few times before taking in the sight of the giant lake.
"Oh, yes! We have to swim later!"
I laugh and pull our stuff out of the car. I take our suitcases in and she grabs my backpack, her duffle, and her purse. Once we have everything inside, Aunt Charlotte comes up to Alice and I.
"I need to stretch my legs, wanna go on a walk, Sam?"
"Sure."
"Ooh, can I come?!" Alice asked excitedly.
"Sorry, Sweetie, I need some bonding time with my sweet nephew." Alice looked disappointed.
"You can help me get everything ready for lunch, Alice! We're gonna take advantage of the great outdoors and grill some burgers." Thanks, Dad.
"That would take a while, so wouldn't it technically be dinner?" She asked.
"Yeah, I guess so. Might as well eat a snack, then."
"Okay, well, can you wait a sec and help me take my stuff to my room, please, Sam?"
"About that, we haven't added another room yet, so you two will have to share the room with two beds."
"That's fine." Alice answered in a way that sent shivers of excitement down my spine.
I helped her take the bags to our room. I put her stuff on the right side of the room and my stuff on the left. She was closer to the connected bathroom. Once I had everything put on the correct side of the room, Alice surprised me with a hungry kiss.
"We could have fun in here." She said in a seductive voice.
That was all I needed to pick her up and toss her on the bed. I was on top of her, kissing her from her lips to her collar bone. I slowly unbuttoned her blouse and kisses her boobs as she held my head with her fingers in my hair. I noticed that she shuddered every time I slid my pierced bottom lip over her skin.
I wasn't surprised because I changed my rings back to hoops this morning. I chuckled under my breath about her reaction.
"Does that tickle or something?"
"It's like electricity..." She gasped as I took a n****e in my mouth.
I had my eyes open and noticed a scar just under her areola. I lifted my head and slowly let her n****e fall out of my mouth. I traced the scar.
"Is this from him?"
"Mm-hmm. So, I need you to make me feel better. Please, Sammy?"
"Charlotte's probably waiting."
I was shaking with anger and desire mixed together. I buttoned her blouse back up and climbed off the bed.
"Hey, Sammy, what's wrong?!"
"What's WRONG? Maybe, the fact that you're not fully mine! Or maybe the fact that I want to kiss every inch of your body, but I keep coming across things left by that disgusting excuse of a man. Maybe, I wanna kill him, but I can't because he wouldn't even know what was happening. Because you're cheating on him with me and I'm the damn mistress!"
She sat there, shocked and I left the room with a slam of the door. My heart ached because I knew those words had hurt her and I just wanted to tell her the truth, not make her feel worse. I stormed out the door of the cabin with my aunt following suit.
"Sam!"
She ran up to me.
"Sam, what happened?! I can feel the rage coming off of you in waves of power."
I didn't answer her, I just kept walking away.
"Sam, you need to calm down or you might end up with your magic exploding."
I stopped dead in my tracks.
"What the hell does that even mean?!"
"It means, you have no control of the power that eminates from you and if you don't ground yourself soon, then you could seriously hurt anyone within a 20 mile radius from you."
"How do I ground myself?”
My aunt took my hands and pulled me down with her as she sat in the circle of trees we had somehow ended up in.
"It's not meditation but it's similar. Your power or magic, if you will, is grounded by emotion and nature. Close your eyes and breathe in and out, deeply."
I did as she said, and I already felt myself become lighter.
"Focus on the feeling of the grass, the sound of the birds, the smell of tree sap, and the taste of brisk clean air."
I focused on all of those things and I felt just a little calmer, like I was heading home after a long day.
"Now, we just did four of the six senses. Touch, hear, smell, and taste. Time for sense number five."
Did she say six senses?
"Focus on the inside of your eyelids, they are dark and devoid of everything. The darkness seems never ending. Think of someone or something that always makes your day better."
Soon, the darkness I see, turns into Alice's face. I'm almost home. I can feel it, the feeling of relief.
"Last one, the sense of feeling, not physical, emotional. Some call it spirit, I call it humanity. Turn that image into that of someone who shapes your life every day from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed. Someone that makes you feel like they center your world."
I thought the image of Alice would stay, but instead, my mom holding my hand, giving me a hug, loving me unconditionally flashes in front of my eyes. Behind my eyelids, I can see a movie-like vision of my mom and I before she died. I can feel tears start to fall on my cheeks and the sense of being home, turns a kind of comfort that I haven't felt in years.
