Scarlets POV Unexpected Consequences Being a maid in Alpha Devon's palace was far from glamorous. Every day, I found myself tiptoeing around, trying to avoid any mishaps that could lead to trouble. But fate had a different plan for me that day. As I carefully balanced the tray of tea cups, my heart raced with nerves. The grandeur of the palace overwhelmed me, and I couldn't shake off the feeling of being out of place. And then, it happened. One wrong step, and the tea spilled onto Alpha Devon's pristine white shirt. “I’m so sorry.” I muttered immediately. “Are you mad or something, why are you so wretched?” Isabella, his soon to be Luna yelled at me in horror. Time seemed to freeze as my eyes widened in horror. I quickly set the tray down and fumbled for a cloth to clean the mess. But before I could even reach him, Isabella, Alpha Devon's soon-to-be mate, appeared out of nowhere, her face twisted with anger. Without a second thought, she slapped me across the cheek, her actions fueled by a mix of humiliation and territoriality. The sting of her hand on my skin left me momentarily stunned, but my concern for Alpha Devon overpowered any pain I felt. “I’m sorry, I didn’t do it on purpose.” I muttered holding my face in pain. As I rushed to his side, my hands instinctively reaching out to check if he was okay, my mind couldn't help but wander. Did my wolf find Alpha Devon attractive? It was a strange thought, but in the supernatural world, such connections existed. But at that moment, it wasn't about attraction or desire. It was about compassion and a sense of duty. My wolf may have recognized Alpha Devon's power and strength, but my heart had yet to be swayed. As I gently rubbed the cloth against his chest, I could feel his gaze on me, his eyes filled with a mix of surprise and curiosity. I dared not meet his gaze, afraid of what he might see in my eyes. The connection between an Alpha and his mate was strong, and I was just a mere maid. My thoughts raced as I finished cleaning the stain from Alpha Devon's shirt. I couldn't deny the raw magnetism he exuded, but I also knew that my place in his world was limited. I had to focus on her duties and keep my emotions in check. “And what the hell do you think you’re doing? Get your filthy hands off him, you're going to make him sick.” Isabella muttered as she rushed over to me pushing me over. I fell to the floor and kept on cleaning the mess that was on the floor. I raised my head slightly, staring at the two wondering what sort of combination they were. “I’m so sorry baby, she would surely get punished for this to teach the others a lesson.” “It’s fine.” “No it’s not.” She retorted glaring at me with her eyes shooting daggers at me. “Get out and get yourself busy with some chores or something.” She snapped and I hurriedly packed the trays and ran out. *** I sighed heavily as I scrubbed the floors, my hands aching from the harsh cleaning chemicals. The punishment for spilling tea on Delvon was more than I had anticipated. But I couldn't let it break me. I kept on thinking about his body and how firm his muscles were held up. He had a very perfect body shape for a man and it was very attractive to anyone. I remembered how he stared at me but I knew it was probably my hallucination or something else. Everyone knew he loved Isabella so I knew whatever I was thinking would never be. Lost in my thoughts, I was startled when Isabella, the soon to be Luna of Delvon, walked into the kitchen . My heart sank, knowing that Isabella always held a certain power over Delvon. She approached me with a smug expression, her voice dripping with superiority. "You should know your place, Scarlet, I don’t like the stunt you played today." she said condescendingly. "You're nothing more than a maid in this palace. Stay away from Alpha Delvon. I don’t want him to be around pests who can get him sick." Her words stung, and tears threatened to spill from my eyes. But I refused to let her see my vulnerability. I straightened my back and looked her in the eye. "I may be a maid, but I am still a person deserving of respect," I said, my voice steady. "And as for Delvon, our connection goes beyond social hierarchies. He sees me for who I truly am, beyond my role in this palace. I know that’s a problem to you but It’s above my power. Maybe you should tell him to stop looking at me that way. " I retorted sharply. “I don’t think you know who I am, I don’t share anything with anyone and lost especially my baby, you’ll live longer if you thread carefully.” She said obviously passing out a threat to me. “I don’t care to know who you are, just leave me alone and I will do the same.” Isabella scoffed, clearly unimpressed by my defiance. "We'll see about that," she sneered before turning on her heel and walking away. I continued with my chores, a fire burning within me. Isabella's words may have tried to diminish me, but I wouldn't let them. I knew my worth extended far beyond my title as a maid. I believed in the genuine connection Delvon and I shared. There was just something about him that kept on dragging me closer to him and whatever it was I was ready to follow it keenly. As I worked tirelessly, I made a silent vow to prove Isabella and anyone else who doubted me wrong. I would rise above the constraints of my position and show them the strength and resilience that resided within me.
