The movie’s laughter track had barely faded when the room went black. Lisa blinked into the sudden darkness. “Uh… did we just lose power?” Daniel groaned. “Yeah. And don’t get your hopes up… I’m no electrician. We’ll have to wait for someone in the morning.” She wrapped the throw blanket tighter around herself, shivering at the cold that crept in. “So… what now?” “I guess… go to bed?” He shrugged, though she couldn’t see it. “You can take the guest room.” “I’m not sleeping alone in the dark,” she said instantly, her voice firm despite the playful lilt. “I’m staying in your room. Just for tonight.” He sighed, but didn’t argue. Upstairs, his bedroom smelled faintly of cedar and clean laundry. They both flopped onto his bed… not under the covers, just sprawled across it, side by side.
