Chapter 2: Time Passes

"Am I dreaming?" Shi Xiaofeng asked himself again. How could there be such a beautiful picture? Was she a nude model? The young man pinched his thigh hard—it hurt, it really hurt; it wasn't a dream! The stunning beauty suddenly revealed a faint smile, as though she was mocking the young boy who had never seen a woman. Even in the dream, her smile was still captivating. Summoning great courage, the young man walked toward the beauty step by step as if possessed. He squatted down and fell beside her. His blood rushed to his head, and suddenly, he kissed her delicate, plump lips—this was the first time in the 18-year-old boy's life that he had kissed a woman's lips. The beautiful woman snorted softly through her nose, shifted her head slightly, and her jet-black hair cascaded down like flowing clouds and waterfalls. Startled, the boy sat down on the ground. The beauty remained asleep, continuing to snore softly. Her pair of towering breasts rose and fell slightly with her breathing. The boy's blood boiled, and an irresistible urge to reach toward the Holy Maiden Peak overcame him. The beauty finally woke up, slowly opened her eyes, and stared blankly at the boy in front of her. Panicked, the young man suddenly bolted out of the door and ran downstairs. No one chased him, and he was safe, but he still felt deeply guilty. "What's wrong with me? Am I really possessed? I've never done anything like this before..." Although he blamed himself, the beautiful scene kept replaying in Shi Xiaofeng's mind, making his blood boil. But after that night, the stunning beauty never appeared again. The models in the office building still dressed beautifully every day, but the mysterious beauty was nowhere to be seen. She seemed to have vanished into thin air, as though she had never existed. That beautiful scene from that night felt like nothing more than a dream. Shi Xiaofeng remained lost for a long time, thinking he would never see her again in this lifetime. Little did he know how deeply intertwined his life would become with that beauty. Nor did he realize that his lifelong "peach blossom calamity" had just begun. --- Time flew, and in the blink of an eye, Shi Xiaofeng had been in college for three years. During those three years, he poured almost all his energy into studying and didn’t even have a girlfriend. It could be said that the young man lived a life of abstinence, like an old monk. His abstinence stemmed, first and foremost, from family misfortune. His father, a policeman, died in the line of duty during his freshman year in college. The family lost its pillar, and his mother, devastated by grief, applied for early retirement. The young man matured overnight, taking on three part-time jobs to pay for tuition and living expenses, while also sending money home to his mother every month. The second reason was, as the saying goes, "once you've seen the sea, nothing else will suffice." Over the years, he had been attracted to girls, and some even confessed to him, but every time he compared them to his "dream goddess" (as he had nicknamed the stunning beauty), he lost interest. There were countless beautiful girls in college, but none could compare to the goddess in his dreams. After all, that mysterious and ethereal goddess was his first kiss! When he turned 20, Shi Xiaofeng faced a troubling realization—his burgeoning physical needs had grown stronger, and he couldn’t bear being single any longer! He found a solution: he would masturbate while imagining his dream goddess. This routine satisfied him, and he dared not imagine ever kissing her again in real life. At the end of his junior year, Shi Xiaofeng met Chi Min, a senior, at a social gathering. The young man finally bid farewell to his single life. Chi Min, one year older than him, was not particularly pretty but was a typical academic achiever. She had the quiet and steady temperament of the girl next door. Shi Xiaofeng recalled introducing her to his cousin. His cousin remarked that Chi Min resembled "Class Monitor Bai Xue," the heroine of a popular youth drama from thirty years ago. Shi Xiaofeng asked, "Was she your goddess too, brother?" His cousin laughed and replied, "I was only in primary school back then! I hadn't even grown ugly yet!" Shi Xiaofeng looked at his cousin, who was now less than 40 but had become fat and bald. He struggled to imagine how his cousin had once looked before "becoming ugly." Though Chi Min was far from ethereal, she was Shi Xiaofeng's first love. Having been independent since childhood, Shi Xiaofeng had grown up without much familial care. Subconsciously, he was more accepting of sister-brother relationships. But deep down, he also knew that describing someone like his dream goddess as "one in a million" was an understatement. He didn’t dare to hope for a girlfriend even half as extraordinary as her. Life, however, is unpredictable. Years later, he would meet the goddess of his dreams again and even share a love story with her... But that’s a tale for another time. --- Shi Xiaofeng’s dedication paid off—he was offered the chance to pursue an MBA. It was a five-year program, with the final two years requiring relevant work experience. He found a formal part-time job to gain experience while studying. Meanwhile, his relationship with Chi Min progressed steadily. Her calm and reserved nature meant their year-long relationship was devoid of fanfare, promises, or physical intimacy. As graduation and breakup season approached, Chi Min prepared to leave. Her parents had arranged for her to return to her hometown for a stable job. One night, in the school’s "Love Corridor," Shi Xiaofeng kissed her passionately and declared, "Wait for me for one year! I’ll finish my MBA, take the civil service exam in your hometown, and then we can truly be together." Chi Min gazed at him gently and said, "I’ll wait for you. I believe you’ll pass the exam!" The next day, Shi Xiaofeng invited her to dinner as usual. A woman at the female graduate dorms said, "Chi Min? She left last night." Shi Xiaofeng didn’t believe her. But when he reached Chi Min’s dorm, it was completely empty—everything had been cleared out. Despite trying every means to contact her, he couldn’t. A week later, he received a letter from her. She explained that their relationship was strongly opposed by her parents, and she couldn’t go against their wishes. The letter ended with: "I’m sorry, forget me." Shi Xiaofeng knew her parents disapproved of his poor family background, and he sighed, muttering, "I don’t care." He spent days in an internet café, playing games in a daze. The owner eventually told him he’d broken the record for continuous internet use at the café! A junior student next to him exclaimed, "Brother, you completed the same game three times!" Realizing his behavior, Shi Xiaofeng rushed to work—only to discover he’d been fired a week earlier. Though not weak by nature, he was overwhelmed by the setbacks. To cope, he isolated himself. "Oh well, I’ll be a hermit for a while!" he thought. He bought a month’s worth of instant noodles, biscuits, and bottled water, locked himself in his rental house, and turned off his phone to meditate. Barely ten minutes into meditation, he drifted into a sweet dream. --- Years of memories flashed by as Shi Xiaofeng finally stirred from his mat. He couldn’t sleep anymore; the discomfort was unbearable. He glanced at the note on the wall and muttered, "Damn, rent is due in four days!" "Don’t be depressed anymore! Cheer up, finish the MBA, and find a new job!" Shi Xiaofeng made an inspiring gesture and shouted.
