Seriously... It's Scary And Annoying

1415 Words
She was about to say something when she saw Azuka walking up to them with a fierce look on her face. "Adam," she said when she'd gotten closer. "What are you doing here?" What was she doing? How did she see them through the crowd of people at the dance floor? And the noise too. Adam didn't seem offended by her friend's hostile tone and just relaxed on his chair. "Azuka. Hi." He continued. "I came here to have some fun, but I saw her", gesturing towards her, "and we were just having a conversation when you decided to show up suddenly." Azuka. The only persons she knew called her friend by her name were friends or people older than her. Adam was none of those things from what she could see, and that made her curious and confused because her friend didn't try to correct him. They were for sure close. Was it because she knew his dad? "She's my friend, and she told me what happened," she glared. "Okay. But I don't know why you look so mad," he said, a smile playing on his lips. "What do you want me to do with that information though?" "I want you to not tell anyone about what happened, Adam. That's all." Tabitha was silently watching them, deciding that she didn't need to say anything, at least not yet. She kind of wanted to say something to him but didn't know how. He frowned. "Why would I tell anyone?" He acted like she offended him by her words. She reared back as their gaze met. It was unexpected. It was like he wanted her to say something, or he wanted to say something to her. Or maybe she was thinking too much. "You're a student," Azuka began, hands on her hips, bringing their attention back to her with her loud voice. "The person more likely to go through hell if this gets out, is my friend over here." "I'm aware." "Are you?" Azuka fired. "Because you certainly don't look like you give a f**k. Her reputation is on the–" He stood up suddenly, startling the two women. He towered over Azuka, hands in his pockets and a blank expression on his face. "You're kind of annoying me, Azuka," he began coldly. “I didn't come here to be attacked by you. If you're not going to be civil at least, then don't bother me." He was about to leave them when Tabitha reached out to grab his arm, surprising them both. "I…" she didn't even know what to say. Should she beg him or something? "I'll text you," he said when she didn't say anything, then walked away after gently removing her fingers from his arm. Now alone, the women looked at him walk away. Tabitha was thinking about how her friend shouldn't have interrupted her and annoyed Adam, but she knew she did it for her. Also, she couldn't get it out of her head how good he looked, and she shouldn't even be thinking about that. "I think we should leave," Azuka said, gulping down Tabitha's drink. She didn't look angry anymore. "Coming here was a bad idea, like I said before." Tabitha didn't protest and followed her as they left. She didn't know whether Adam left the club or he just went somewhere else. "First time you didn't drink a whole bottle," Tabitha said mostly to herself, but Azuka heard her. "I was worried about you drinking all alone. I'm happy I came back." They settled in her car. Tabitha nodded. "I saw Ade." Azuka looked angry now. "That stupid bastard who cheated on you?!" "He was with his 'fianceé' and tried to berate me in different ways, but when I told him where I worked, he was so shocked," Tabitha laughed softly. "Then Adam came and he got mad, demanding to know who he was." "I missed meeting him again," Azuka said. "You never should have been with that trash for such a long time." She agreed with her. But it was the past now, and she was happy she'd left him. "Are you and Adam close?" She asked. "Why do you ask?" "He's very casual with you." Azuka hesitated. "We kind of grew up together so…" Tabitha's eyes widened. "Grew up together?" Azuka nodded. "I'm older than him sure, but I've known him since he was a baby and he's known me since then too. His dad and mine are friends, so our families are quite- " "Why didn't you say anything?!" Azuka raised a brow at her scream. "Because it's the least of our problems. He's always done whatever he wants to and if his father finds out that you two had s*x, he will murder me, and make sure to f**k up your employment opportunities anyway he can because he's actually crazy about his only child who's an angel in his eyes. When it comes to certain things, he doesn't do 'friends' and 'family'. Adam hasn't known you since childhood and so, his father wouldn't really pay much attention to your plea, so…" Tabitha sighed. "It would've still been nice to know." "I know. I'm sorry for not telling you. But he said he'd text you, maybe that'll be something." "Yeah. Maybe." She kept quiet as Azuka drove in silence. ***** "You didn't text me back," was the first thing Adam said to her when they met in the empty lecture hall that she was to teach in soon. Tabitha was nervous at the lack of space between them. She placed a hand on his hard chest and found a way to move away from him. Last night, he'd sent her a text message. Hi, it's Adam. Can we talk? She'd left him on read. It should've occurred to her that he would confront her somehow. And it wasn't even a discreet place they were in because anyone could enter anytime. God, maybe she should've just said she was busy or something in response then nothing like this would be happening to her. "It's inappropriate for us to be having such conversations," she said, uncomfortable under his piercing brown eyes. He sighed, not making a move to come any closer. "You know, if I'd known that you were my lecturer, then I wouldn't have gotten in the same bed with you." "I don't really know," she let out. "You don't look like you're affected at all, so you must be used to sleeping around, right? Azuka said you always did whatever you wanted to." Someone who looked as good as him and who had money and some significant amount of power surely wouldn't have that much of a conscience. And Azuka said he was into music, so exposing her if he wanted would probably make him more popular. Women barely ever survived any s****l scandals concerning them in Nigeria. Adam chuckled. "I don't do things like this." "Not all the time then." "Not ever," he insisted. "I don't sleep with strangers, too many diseases around. I sleep with people I'm sure of." So did she, but now… "You just looked like a wet dream in the flesh. So f*****g sexy," he said, surprising her. "I just wanted to dance at first, then just a kiss, and then… you know what happened." Tabitha looked away, remembering everything. She couldn't say that she didn't remember anything because she wasn't drunk then. She understood what he meant by 'just a kiss', she'd wanted it too. Next time, she'd stick to that. If there'll ever be a next time. "Are you going to tell anyone?" She asked him after getting her thoughts under control. She couldn't really meet his eyes, so she settled for his lips. Bad idea, really. "If you were me, wouldn't you?" Tabitha wanted to smack her head on the wall, or smack him. She just wanted a straight up answer for God's sake! "Adam-" "If I said I wouldn't, would you believe me?" He asked, a small smile playing on his lips. She didn't know whether to be angry or sad. Was he just playing with her? "Well?" "If I said I'd try to believe you, would you promise not to?" "Probably not." She glared, pissed. "Adam-" The doors bursted open and students started trooping in, interrupting their conversation to Tabitha's anger and Adam's amusement. Tabitha cursed bitterly, glaring at Adam who gave her a cheerful smile. "I'll call you," he mouthed. She'd rather he didn't.
