Suddenly, the creature froze.
Its grip weakened. Its breathing changed from harsh and ragged to heavy and uneven.
I slowly opened my eyes.
Those silver eyes were now staring at me, not with savagery anymore, but with hesitation.
There was something there, something that felt almost human, as if a flicker of consciousness was fighting its way back.
I could feel the massive body trembling above me, as if it were struggling against something unseen.
Within seconds, its fur began to recede, its shape shrinking, and before me now was Lucan. Human again, panting hard, his face pale, his eyes filled with fear and confusion.
He stared at me for a long moment, then whispered in a strained voice, “You were never supposed to see this.”
I looked at him as tears streamed down my cheeks. My words caught in my throat.
I didn’t know what to say, because the reality before my eyes had just shattered everything I believed in.
Lucan lowered his head, one hand pressed to his temple as if enduring unbearable pain. His body trembled, nearly losing balance.
He looked back at me with a strange expression—sharp, yet at the same time, as though he was struggling to contain something within.
“You are different,” he said quietly. “I can feel it. Your blood, your scent. You are not human.”
I shook my head quickly, my voice trembling. “I am human… I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Lucan said nothing. He only closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and turned his face away.
I couldn’t tell if it was fear or regret that flickered in his eyes but I knew one thing for certain.
I had to get away from there.
With trembling hands, I grabbed my bag and ran.
Since that night, since I saw the true form of Lucan Fiermox, my life has never been the same.
I can no longer sleep peacefully. Every time I close my eyes, all I see is his body twisting under the moonlight. His skin stretching, bones cracking, and those silver eyes glowing through the darkness.
At first, I wanted to believe it was just a nightmare brought by exhaustion.
But no, I knew too well. It was real. Lucan Fiermox was not human.
I tried convincing myself that it was pointless to dwell on it, that I had to keep working as usual.
But every time I faced him, that nervous feeling returned.
Lucan treated me as he always did. Cold, composed, authoritative but there was something different now. His gaze lingered too long, too intensely, and sometimes it stole my breath away. He had become protective in strange ways, forbidding me from staying late, driving me home without being asked, even knowing where I was at all times.
I didn’t know whether to feel safe or terrified.
Eventually, I decided to resign. I couldn’t stand being near him any longer.
Especially after the rumors spreading through campus. People saying I was Lucan’s mistress, that the reason he was so protective was because I belonged to him.
I had no idea why they thought that, but deep down, I knew it was because of how differently Lucan had begun to treat me.
Tonight, I walked into the Fiermox Holdings building with heavy steps.
In my hand was an envelope containing my resignation letter. A decision I had wrestled with for days.
I could no longer work under the shadow of the man who haunted my dreams every night.
The man who no longer just frightened me but made me feel something I shouldn’t.
Lucan.
I looked at my reflection in the glass door. Pale face, tired eyes, and a heart pounding out of rhythm.
I just wanted to end this. To finish it once and for all.
But my steps halted when that deep, familiar voice called my name.
“Lira.”
I turned.
Lucan stood at the edge of the parking lot, under the dim shadow of a tall pillar, dressed in a black suit and an unbuttoned shirt. His face looked weary, yet his gaze remained sharp, as always.
I tightened my grip on the envelope. “Mr. Lucan, I......”
“You came to say goodbye?” he interrupted softly, his tone calm yet cutting.
I hesitated before nodding. “I can’t keep working for you. After what happened, I can’t pretend everything is fine.”
Lucan stepped closer. Each of his steps made the air around me feel heavier.
“Is it because of that night?” he asked quietly. “Because you saw me like that?”
I swallowed hard, unable to meet his eyes. “I don’t know what to believe anymore. But I do know that I’m afraid.”
He stopped right in front of me. His silver-blue eyes locked on mine, as though trying to read every thought in my head.
“You should be afraid, Lira. My world isn’t yours. I could lose control again, and this time, I might not be able to stop myself.”
“Then let me go,” I said, my voice trembling but firm. “I just want a normal life. I’m only human.”
Lucan exhaled deeply, his voice lowering, steady but sharp. “If you’re truly human, then why did your aura calm me that night? Why couldn’t I kill you when I was completely losing control?”
I froze, speechless.
He lowered his face slightly, leaning closer, his voice a near whisper. “Do you think I haven’t tried? To stay away from you? But every time you’re gone, I can feel you… here.” He placed a hand on his chest. “As if something inside me keeps searching for you.”
I took half a step back. “Stop saying things like that. You’re only making this harder.”
Lucan shook his head slowly. “You don’t understand, Lira. I’ve been trying to protect you from a world you should never have touched. But the more I pull away, the more I.......”
He stopped.
I frowned. “The more you what?”
Before he could answer, the air around us shifted cold and thick.
Lucan straightened immediately, his senses on high alert.
“Get in the car,” he said quickly, his tone sharp.
“What’s wrong?”
He didn’t respond. His eyes darted toward the darkness, his pupils narrowing like an animal scenting danger.
Then came the sound of heavy footsteps, followed by a low, guttural growl.
Lucan turned to me with a deadly look. “Don’t move.”
But before I could react, something burst from the shadows and slammed into us.
I was thrown back, hitting the car door hard.
Before me stood a massive figure muscular, covered in dark fur, with blazing red eyes.
The creature glared at me and spoke in a voice that sounded like a demon’s whisper.
“I’ve finally found her,” it hissed in a tongue I didn’t fully understand. But amidst the growls, I caught two words that made my blood freeze—mate and Silvermoon.
I screamed and tried to run, but the creature grabbed my arm with crushing force.
Then another growl echoed behind it.
Lucan.
In an instant, he lunged forward, slamming the beast away with terrifying strength.
The two of them collided, their blows echoing like thunder.
I froze, watching Lucan’s body shift again before my eyes. His skin tearing, bones cracking, and within seconds, the man I knew as my professor and CEO had become a massive silver wolf, his eyes glowing like molten light.
The fight was brutal. Growls, impacts, and the metallic scent of blood filled the air.
Finally, Lucan overpowered the creature, tearing it apart until it lay motionless on the ground.
He stood amidst the blood and ruin, breathing heavily, his silver eyes still glowing.
When our gazes met, I flinched but the look in his eyes wasn’t savage. It was sorrowful.
Lucan slowly stepped back, his form shrinking, and within moments he was human again.
His body was covered in blood, his breath ragged, but he still walked toward me.
“I didn’t mean to frighten you,” he rasped, his voice shaking with pain.
I looked at him, tears streaming down my face, trying to form words until I noticed something.
Blood was dripping from my arm a deep wound from the creature’s claws.
Lucan reached for me without thinking, his hands closing around mine.
The moment our skin touched, something happened.
A wave of heat rushed through my veins, spreading like fire beneath my skin.
I gasped, trying to pull away, but Lucan held on tighter.
His eyes widened. “Impossible,” he whispered.
I trembled. My blood and his dripped onto the floor, slowly merging into one shimmering silver hue.
My heartbeat thundered, and my body felt heavy, as if something deep inside me had just awakened.
“Lira,” Lucan said hoarsely, his voice breaking. “Your blood… it isn’t human.”
I shook my head violently. “What are you talking about? I’m human! I’m, I’m just an ordinary girl!”
Lucan stared at me, disbelief and confusion clouding his expression. “No. You’re not human. I can feel it. Your blood is like the Silvermoon pack’s, but different. There’s something stronger in you.”
I stood frozen. I didn’t know what to say.
I didn’t even know who I truly was.
I was raised in an orphanage, without a family name, without a past.
Lucan lowered his gaze, his voice soft but weighted with grief. “You’re Lycan-born, Lira. And not just any kind… You come from another pack—one that once waged war against Silvermoon.”
The world seemed to stop spinning.
I stared at him, my heart pounding painfully in my chest.
Lucan stepped back, as if afraid of the truth that had just left his lips.
His eyes darkened. Not with anger, but despair.
“I was never supposed to touch you,” he whispered, voice trembling. “Because if what I said is true, then you are my forbidden mate.”
I didn’t fully understand the meaning of his words, but the look in his eyes told me everything.
