Chapter Thirty-Nine
Suzi was the first of the ducklings to poke her head through the open doorway. The other girls were huddled behind her, with Jeremy bringing up the rear.
Some of the girls had still been reluctant to venture outside, but the option of remaining inside the museum, possibly for what was left of the night, also did not appeal. So, on balance, they all decided it would be best to stick together and leave.
The sight that met Suzi’s eyes when she focused on the dimly lit car park was enough to make her stop dead in her tracks.
She could see the mangled remains of the minibus’s door discarded on the ground, next to the prone body of a man. The man was not moving and the thought that he might actually be dead caused a ripple of disquiet to flow through her body.
