Valeria's POV
I quickly clicked the phone off and stabbed it into my purse, my heart beating twice as fast.
My stomach dropped instantly. The piece of sea bass I'd just put in my mouth went down the wrong chute and suddenly I couldn't breathe.
I started choking and coughing, but it didn't dislodge the obstruction in my throat.
"Mommy!" Elliot screeched as his little hands reached for me, absolutely terrified.
I tried to force air past the obstruction, but nothing worked. Panic flooded through me as I looked at him, tears watering my eyes.
"Mommy, what's wrong? Mommy!"
My windpipe was completely blocked. I clawed at my throat, my chest burning as I gasped for oxygen.
"Valeria!" My father was on his feet now too, reaching for me, but he didn't know what to do.
