HEIDI’S POV The loud insult from Alpha Thomas echoed clearly across the open dirt clearing, and the highly disrespectful words instantly triggered a violent reaction from the Warlord standing next to me. Kurt let out a deafening, chest-rattling roar from deep within his throat, and the terrifying sound caused the leaves on the surrounding trees to shake physically. His heavy, dominant energy field surged outward aggressively, pushing a massive wave of physical pressure directly against the chests of the rival warriors standing thirty feet away. Jason and our own security guards immediately raised their heavy automatic rifles and aimed the black metal barrels straight at the opposing army because they fully expected Kurt to order a massive slaughter right then and there. Kurt bent his knees slightly to lunge directly across the border and tear Alpha Thomas apart with his bare hands, completely intending to kill the man for his disrespect. Because I absolutely refused to let a foolish man trigger an unnecessary war that would cost the lives of our guards, my right hand reached out quickly and pressed flat against the solid muscles of Kurt's chest. The sudden physical contact successfully halted his forward momentum, and he looked down at my face with wild, angry dark eyes while his chest heaved with heavy breaths. "Do not waste your physical energy or the ammunition of our guards on a man who cannot even afford to feed his own people properly," the loud declaration left my mouth smoothly, carrying easily across the silent clearing to ensure every single rival warrior heard my specific words. Keeping my posture completely straight, my boots took a single step forward while remaining safely within Kurt's protective reach. I locked my dark eyes directly onto Alpha Thomas, completely ignoring the sharp silver blade he still pointed at my body. "You speak incredibly loudly for an Alpha who currently owes our territory over five hundred thousand dollars," the accusation continued loudly, revealing the highly sensitive information I learned while scrubbing the floors of Erwin's private office during the last three years. "You came here today to act like a powerful conqueror and threaten my home, yet your people are currently experiencing a severe meat shortage because you squandered your pack's funds on purchasing expensive leather armor instead of securing proper trade routes for your winter food supply." Alpha Thomas lowered his silver blade slightly, and his arrogant facial expression quickly shifted into a look of absolute panic. He clearly did not expect a wolfless girl from a neighboring pack to know the intimate financial details of his failing territory. He opened his mouth to deny the claims, but I refused to give him an opportunity to speak. "Furthermore, you gladly accepted the counsel of those three exiled elders standing directly behind you, but you apparently failed to realize they were banished from our lands because they actively stole orphan stipends to enrich themselves," the verbal destruction continued without any hesitation while I pointed my finger at the three older men. "If you are truly desperate enough to take financial and political advice from common thieves, then your pack is already completely doomed, and you possess absolutely no authority to demand my surrender today or any other day." A loud murmur immediately spread through the thick ranks of the rival army. The two hundred heavily armed warriors lowered their wooden spears and their silver blades slightly while turning their heads to look at each other in deep confusion. They clearly knew about the food shortages in their respective villages, and hearing the humiliating truth spoken aloud by a teenage girl made them extremely uncomfortable with their current mission. The three exiled elders backed away from Alpha Thomas nervously because the rival warriors started glaring at them with intense suspicion and rising anger. Recognizing that his own men were rapidly losing respect for his leadership and questioning his motives, Alpha Thomas turned bright red with absolute fury. His fragile ego could not handle the public humiliation I just delivered, and he desperately needed to reassert his physical dominance over the situation to save his reputation. He let out a loud, angry scream and tightened his grip on the handle of his silver sword. Completely ignoring the ancient territorial laws and the heavy automatic weapons aimed at his chest, the rival Alpha took a deliberate, heavy step across the cleared dirt line to attack me directly. Before Alpha Thomas could even raise his weapon a second time or take another step toward my body, Kurt lunged forward with terrifying physical speed. The massive Warlord closed the short distance in a fraction of a second, completely bypassing the sharp silver blade with expert combat precision. Kurt reached his massive right hand out and grabbed Alpha Thomas directly by the throat. Squeezing the man's neck tightly, Kurt lifted the rival Alpha entirely off the dirt ground using only one arm. Thomas dropped his expensive sword onto the rocks below, and he grabbed Kurt's thick forearm with both of his hands while struggling violently to breathe. Our heavily armed guards stepped forward and tightened their fingers on the triggers of their rifles, but the Blood River warriors remained completely frozen in shock. They watched their supposedly powerful Alpha dangle helplessly in the air from a single hand, and none of them made a single move to cross the border and defend him. Walking slowly forward, my boots crunched against the dry dirt until my body stopped right next to Kurt. I looked directly up into Alpha Thomas's bulging eyes while his face turned a dark shade of purple from the severe lack of oxygen. He kicked his heavy leather boots in the air, completely powerless against the Warlord's immense physical strength. "You crossed our border with the specific intention of dragging me away and locking me inside a cage, Alpha Thomas," the words left my lips in a very cold and steady tone while I addressed the choking man, refusing to show even a single ounce of sympathy for his current predicament. "If you do not signal your warriors to drop their weapons and retreat to their homes immediately, my mate is going to snap your neck right now, and then what exactly do you think we will do to your defenseless territory?"
