Chapter One

"Lucian." I turned away from the window hearing the soothing sweet voice of my wife. A loving smile crossed my features as I looked at the shy girl. Her dark hair flowed down her shoulders in waves. She was wearing a blue velvet dress with a sweetheart neckline which showed her milky white collarbone. She was looking at me with the same loving gaze I gave her but the difference that was mine was more intense. "Lucian," she called again. " I was wondering if I could go to the market with Jade today. I really miss talking with the folks and seeing all the new items the vendors bring." Taking long strides to her, I slide my hands around her waist causing her breath to hitch the way it always did when I touched her. Her pale cheeks turned crimson when I drew her closer to me making sure there was no gap between us. "Amor, it's still early and besides you need rest." My hand caressed her bulging tummy over her dress. "Lucian, all I've been doing for the past two weeks is resting. I'm starting to get bored and the doctor said I should walk more." "So you're basically saying that you're getting bored of always spending time with me, isn't that right?" my brows creased into a playful frown. "Lucian! You know it's not like that!" Her cheeks puffed out just like it always did when she was upset and her lips formed into a cute pout. This was one of my favorite expressions. That cute angry look. Aside from the face she made when I was making love to her. "Forgive me Amor, I just wanted to tease you a bit." I pecked her pouted lips. " You can go to the market with Jade but I can't promise that I won't miss you." My wife's face lit up like a star when I agreed to her wishes. Standing on the tip of her toes, she wrapped her arms around my neck and pressed her soft, pink lips against mine. I couldn't help but snake my fingers in her silky hair as I deepened the kiss. Her lips were intoxicating. I could kiss them forever if I was given the chance to. "Lucian..." Valentina moaned as I nibbled her bottom lip, slightly tugging it. I run my tongue over her bottom lip asking for entrance which she gave in but before I could explore her cavern, she pulled away from me heading to the door. "Valentina." I couldn't hold back a groan knowing exactly what my little vixen was doing. "Yes love?" She looked at me with a tiny smirk over her shoulder, her dark hair sweeping behind her. Knowing that I could punish her later, I smiled. " I love you Amor." The tiny smirk transformed into a full, beautiful smile at my words. " I love you too Luci." Then she left. I watched another scene unfold. It was one I knew too well. One that never left even though I tried burying it in the deepest part of my memory. The bedroom I was in melted into the throne room. The throne room where all my dreams and happiness ended. The throne room was on fire. The fire, so unforgiven, so unmerciful swallowed everything in it's path. I thought we could be happy. I thought we could be free. That we could love each other feely and be happy but I was wrong. So wrong. I was on my knees. My shirt torn to shreds. Blood stuck to my clothes as my chest heaved up and down in pain. The silver chains that were wrapped around my body worsened the pain with each breath. Footsteps echoed throughout the throne room as the man I hated the most waltzed around the throne room not deterred by the fire spreading rapidly. My father. "Weak boy. You've always been a disgrace. An error in my family. You chose to be something you're not. You threw away the power given to you for a witch." He gestured to my wife who was tied up to a wooden board in the middle of the throne room. "And you had the audacity to try and bring an abomination into this world. How pathetic." He walked over to me and grabbed me by the hair and pulled so that I was making contact with him. "But I'm going to fix that. I'm not going to let you disgrace me any further. I'm going to wipe away these abominations." My face which was hard with hatred suddenly shifted to fear. "Don't! Don't you dare hurt her!!" I yelled, trying to tear through the silver chains and save my love. "You've spent time with these humans so I'm sure you know what they do to witches like her." My father ignored my screams, moving towards Valentina who was silent the whole time. Tears streamed down her face as she looked at me with fear. I wanted to tell her that it would be ok and that everything was going to be fine but I knew those words were lies. "They burn them." Valentina choked on a sob as I screamed at the mad man hoping to get his attention. "Don't do it, please father, please!" I tried to channel all my strength to break the chains but it seemed futile. All I could do was watch her tear stained face as she gave me a shaky smile to reassure me. "I love you." she mouthed before her dress was set on fire. It didn't take long for her dress to turn to ash and it didn't take long for it to start burning her flawless skin. "Ah! Ah! Ah!!" Her screams tore through my ears as I closed my teary eyes, not being able to see her in such a state. "Valentina! Valentina!!" My father watched with a sick smile as my beloved burned until there was no difference between the wood she was attached to and her. "Now you know the consequences of going against me Lucian. My eyes opened wide as I sat up on the king sized bed. Beads of sweat rolled down my body as I tried to get my breathing back to normal. Fuck! I dreamt of her again. It had been three hundred years since that incident but I still couldn't get her out of my mind. She was everywhere. I tried not to think of her. I brought in hookers and prostitutes to help me forget about her but every single time, I see her and only her. It was almost like she wanted me to remember how I failed her. How I was weak to protect her. Weak to protect her and our child.
