I managed to get to class just before homeroom ended. Mr. Green said calmly,” So gracious of you to join us for class Janice.” I winced internally. Where have I heard that before? I thought sarcastically. I hoped that my nervousness didn’t show on my face. I sat down in my seat next to Andrew and hoped that he wouldn’t say a word to me. Unfortunately, today the odds haven’t been in my favor.“Hey Janice.” Danny looked at me with that daring look in his eyes and that terrible smirk. I said nothing as I looked forward at Mr. Green and wrote down our notes. Andrew moved closer,” What’s the matter?” I tried to keep my poker face intact. He continued,” Gee, I’m sorry! I didn’t want to make you speechless Darlin.” He grinned as he drawled out the last word with a stupid country accent. I tried to hide my chuckle but I knew he heard it by the way he smirked and the way his eyes lit up. I quickly wrote down the rest of the notes for our science test. But even when he looked away and started passing notes to someone else, I could still see his bright green eyes shining at me. Sparkling at me with that reckless smirk on his face that could only mean trouble. I shouldn’t have looked up from my paper. I should’ve just tried to sleep after Mr. Green left the room. But I’m not as smart as people say I am- I can’t be! Any smart person would’ve looked anywhere else but him and his stupid smirk and those emerald eyes and ignore him- but I looked. We locked eyes and there was something strange in his eyes again. I’ve never been able to quite place what it is when he looks at me sometimes. I’m tempted to say it’s softness- but that’s stupid. Andrew Lawrence doesn’t care about anyone-, not me or anyone else. I try to remember that as a slow smile (not a smile- a smirk- Drew doesn’t smile) creeps into his face as I go to Social Studies.
