Chapter Sixteen

1266 Words
Kyle They drove in silence back to her house; she was curled into the door, sitting as far from him as she could; it hurt a little bit, after their first kiss. He couldn't  stop thinking about how soft her lips were under his, how she tasted so sweet when he licked his tongue along her lips and she moaned into him. Kyle knew it would take her a while to get used to kissing him, that she would have reservations as they moved forwards but he couldn't help but feel hurt that she felt the need to sit so far away after that magical kiss. Her hand lifted up and moved the hair from her face behind her ear, she reached carefully over to the radio and turned it on; Kyle wasn't even paying attention to what music was playing, but it was slow and melodic, meaningful. With that small movement, the car filled with vanilla, his new favourite smell. Kyle drove carefully to the house and pulled up in  front of the porch steps that led to the red door.  Maggie stiffened as he turned the car off and unbuckled them both; reaching for her hand he stopped before he got to her and blew out a sigh, got out of the car and headed to her side, opening it and stretching out his hand. There was no sign of the crime scene team from yesterday, he prayed that they had cleaned up after themselves;, it was the last thing she needed to worry about.  Maggie didn't take his hand, she climbed purposefully out of the car and stalked her way to the front door, leaving the car open and unlocked. She unlocked the front door and swung it open. Standing in the entrance she quickly surveyed the ground floor and took tentative steps after each look. "Can you...?" she asked, pointing towards the kitchen. Kyle nodded and headed to the room where he'd held her parents at knife-point to save her life. Thankfully, the room was clean and the smell of chemicals filed the air; it was better than nothing.  "It's all clean and clear in here, love." he called back to her, heading to the kettle and flicking it on; may as well have a coffee whilst she gathered her things. "Do you want a drink Maggie? Do you mind if I grab a coffee?" he heard her heading up the stairs, walking along the landing and then up the next flight of stairs and she called down a quick 'help yourself'. Kyle made a coffee for himself and a tea for Maggie; she'd drunk them fine at his so assumed she was okay with them. He decided to give her a few minutes to gather enough stuff for a few days and would go up if she didn't come down in the next 10 or 15 minutes. Drinks in hand he headed to the dining room and had to remove a dust cloth from the table; underneath was a beautiful wooden table with hand carved cheetah's sat proudly as the legs. It was stunning work. Finished with a dark varnish that gleamed in the Autumn sun shining through the large window that showed the garden area outside.  Maggie was still moving around upstairs so he decided to walk back into the kitchen and go out through the French doors that opened onto a patio area; wooden decking extended around 8 foot forwards and then opened up into a mass area of well maintained grass, the garden was bordered by a metre-wide soiled area with wilting plants that he'd bet were gorgeous flowers in the summer. He had no doubt this was all Maggie's doing; the parents didn't seem to care about anything other than themselves. "Ready." She appeared behind him in a change of clothes; black leggings and her pumps again, this time she had a thick turtleneck jumper on that was a deep teal colour; it made her eyes shine and, Goddess, it clung to her curves in all the right places.  He resisted the urge to pull her into him and kiss her again, she didn't seem to enjoy it too much last time, and instead reached to snake his arm around her waste. "Hey honey, you look lovely, do you have everything you need in there?" he pointed at her red holdall and she nodded weakly. "Okay well there's a tea in there for you, I wasn't sure if you drink coffee or not so stuck with the tea. I hope that's okay?" Maggie smiled a little at him and nodded; he led them back inside and closed the doors behind them, locking the doors and then they headed into the dining room to get their drinks.  "Kyle," she started after drinking some of her tea; he looked at her from the chair opposite and put his cup down, "I can stay here, or at a hotel; you don't have to do this. I know we talked about what I am, and I know that you now know what that makes you." she fumbled with her fingers and then pulled her jumper down at the edges, trying to cover more of herself up; he reached for her hand but she pulled away and looked at him again, "YOU have a choice." she emphasised. He looked at her, confused and c****d an eyebrow, tilting his head slightly.  Sighing, Maggie explained, "You don't have to do this. You can choose to walk away, there is nothing tying you to me, not yet." she started to cry again, "Kyle, you don't have to have me, you can go and be happy, meet someone and live a happy life with them. I'll leave you alone, you won't have to deal with me anymore. I want you to know that you have a choice, right here and now." Kyle closed the space between them and pulled her to stand up; wiping a stray tear from her cheek he shook his head. "Maggie, this is completely new to me." he laughed and lifted her chin to look at him, "I have no idea what is happening to me, I didn't even know any Seer's existed anymore, let alone that I am fated to be mates with someone as special as you." he continued to chuckle, lifted his hand and rubbed the back of his neck, "I don't know if I can help you, I don't know what it means to accept our fate, for me or you. All I know is, since the alleyway, I can't stop thinking about how I want, no, need to be with you. I want to be the one who comforts you when you're sad. I want to be there to wipe your tears," with that, he reached his hand to her face and wiped her tears again, "I want you and it scares me like hell!" "You don't understand, Kyle." she whimpered into his hand. "Then tell me, what is it?" he kissed her forehead and moved her hair from her face. "I am not pure for you. I am not a virgin. You deserve that of your mate; that's not who I am. I'm not a good person, I have been hurt and torn and I...I just..." she pulled away from him, she was angry, trying to get her point across, the floor started to shake as she got angrier at herself; he held tight onto the nearest chair for stability and reached for her hand; she immediately calmed.  "You deserve more." was the last thing she said before she grabbed her holdall and walked out of the house, leaving him stunned behind her.
