Kaeva read until the fire began to wane, and after he got up to add more wood and poke at it, Eddie didn’t have to be told the reading was over for the night. The Cure had made the body strong, but even the strongest body still got dark circles under its eyes when it needed to rest. The circles under Kaeva’s eyes were so dark they were heading toward black hole territory. Kaeva had started yawning mid-sentence even before he’d flipped the previous half a dozen pages, and why he hadn’t stopped then was anybody’s guess. Eddie wasn’t about to fool himself into thinking that Kaeva was enjoying the company, let alone Eddie’s deep, long stares. So maybe, Eddie told himself, he’d let that little bug in his guts tell him Kaeva had stuck it out for him. At least for the night. It was a nice though
