Chapter 4

308 Words
Even the parent-teacher conference at the start of the school year was handled by a nanny. Yet, it was that very conference that pushed me into an abyss. Ten days into the school year, I suddenly became popular at school. Someone posted on Reddit, calling me the new campus belle. The post was pinned, and many students began visiting our class just to see me. I quickly became the celebrity of my grade. With fame came trouble, and that saying proved to be true. After the parent-teacher conference, I was falsely accused of being involved with a delinquent teenager from outside the school. The teacher showed me a paper with testimonies from over a dozen classmates, all claiming that the cigarette butts found in the classroom were evidence of me bringing the delinquent teenager in. My attempts to explain myself felt weak and futile. Nobody believed me, not even my mom. After the teacher called her, she immediately reached out to a special school. This school claimed it could set students like me back on the right path within a year. My mom took me there herself. The school was located in a remote area, and they said it was to better address the children's issues, which was why they picked such a secluded spot. They wouldn't allow parents to visit. Students couldn't leave without permission, and contact with parents was heavily restricted. We had only one chance to visit our parents each month. It was just like a prison. Parents sat outside while students sat inside a glass enclosure. My mom didn't come even once that year. That year was the most frightening of my life. I prayed countless times for my mom to come and save me. I felt so desperate and helpless, yet she still didn't show up. I couldn't understand why she didn't come.
