Chapter 8

466 Words
It had been a month since my death, and my mom still hadn't realized I was gone. I couldn't help but wonder how they were handling my body. Lucas's leg had almost healed, and now he could use a cane to move around the house. The living room was a mess, cluttered with Lego blocks everywhere. Lucas said, "Mom, I want to play with Legos in Kate's room. It's really inconvenient to have them in the living room." His room was right next to mine, but unlike mine, he had the master bedroom with a balcony, while I had been stuck with a room that used to be a guest room. Mom agreed, and soon my bed was moved out and tossed into the basement storage room. They also took away the desk from my room, replacing it with a shelf just for Lucas's finished Lego creations. A soft carpet was laid on the floor for him to sit comfortably and play with his Legos. I didn't have a place to sleep anymore and could only wander around the living room and kitchen alone. I overheard the nanny and the driver chatting. "Mr. Wilson hasn't been back for a long time. I heard that woman is pregnant too. It seems she's about to give birth." The driver asked, "Is that true? Mrs. Wilson hasn't reacted at all!" The nanny replied, "What reaction could she have? Didn't she already know? Back when Mr. Wilson tore his mistress's clothes, it was Mrs. Wilson who gave her new clothes." The driver shook his head, saying, "Mrs. Wilson is really magnanimous. Her husband is openly cheating, and she stays indifferent." The nanny continued, "She's not indifferent; she just can't do anything about it! Look at her background. Mr. Wilson looks down on her. If she hadn't been young and beautiful back then, he probably wouldn't have married her, especially with a child." The driver reminded, "Don't say that. Miss Garcia is a good girl. I just don't know how she's doing now. She hasn't come back in such a long time." The nanny added, "What good is it for Miss Carcia to be a good girl? If you're not from the Wilson family, you can't earn any respect. Look at Mrs. Wilson. She works harder than us servants from morning till night, and Mr. Wilson still doesn't come home." The nanny concluded, "The Wilson family has never lacked sensible people. What they lack are ones of real value. If Mrs. Wilson hadn't given birth to Mr. Lucas Wilson, she would have been kicked out long ago." I leaned against the kitchen island, listening closely to their gossip. So, Aaron had been having an affair, and Mom actually knew about it. It seemed she wasn't as happy as I had thought.
