I took a deep breath.
I remained where I was and did not chase after Zarelle.
If she was brave enough to admit her mistake, then so was I.
She might have schemed her way into my life, but she’d never done anything to harm me.
When I gave her the cold shoulder, I had also lost a valuable chance to get to know her.
The sound of music jolted me out of my thoughts. The next dance was about to begin.
As I made my way through the crowd, I pondered how I could start to repair my relationship with her.
Nicholas found me at the bar, nursing a glass of whiskey.
He planted himself on the stool next to me.
“Why aren’t you dancing?”
“Not interested.”
“But you danced with that woman.”
I shot him a disapproving look. “She has a name.”
