Chapter Two – The Elevator Surprise

Three weeks later.
Rossy stood in front of the tall glass building, clutching her tote bag like a shield.
Hale & Hart: the biggest marketing tech firm in the city. A place where dreams were made, and resumes came to life. She’d landed the summer internship after beating out dozens of applicants.
It was supposed to be the start of a new chapter.
So why did her stomach twist like she was walking into a courtroom instead?
Because she was still thinking about him.
The stranger. Thomas. The man who’d taken her virginity and disappeared like smoke. Not a text. Not a clue. Just that note.
She told herself to forget it. To bury the guilt over Aaron, the heartbreak, the confusion.
This was her chance. Her future.
She squared her shoulders and stepped inside the building.
The elevator doors slid open on the 27th floor, revealing a hallway bathed in glass and sunlight. She followed the signs toward the intern orientation room, her heels clicking with nervous energy.
She turned a corner—and nearly collided with someone.
“Whoa—sorry,” she gasped, clutching her bag.
And then she froze.
Him.
Same crisp suit. Same eyes. Same jawline she remembered tracing with trembling fingers.
Thomas.
He froze too. His expression flickered—for a second, a flash of recognition, disbelief, maybe even guilt.
Rossy’s heart plummeted.
No. No. No way.
What are you doing here?” she whispered before she could stop herself.
He blinked, then composed himself like a switch had flipped.
“I could ask you the same,” he said coolly, his voice a little too calm.
“I… I’m the new marketing intern,” she said, breathless.
He stared for one more beat, then nodded. “Welcome to Hale & Hart, Miss Bennett.”
Miss Bennett.
He was pretending they were strangers.
And that—somehow—hurt worse than waking up to that empty bed.
Before she could respond, he turned and walked away, leaving her standing there, blood roaring in her ears.
This can’t be happening.
But it was.
The man who took her first time, the one-night mystery, the mistake she couldn’t stop thinking about—was her new boss.
