Chapter Seven – No More Games

372 Words
Rossy stood by the door, arms folded tightly over her chest, heart thudding hard against her ribs. Thomas stepped in slowly, like he was entering holy ground. “I didn’t come here to make you uncomfortable.” “You already did that,” she said quietly. “The night you left me without a word.” He nodded, swallowing. “I know. I was a coward that morning. I told myself it was to protect you… but truth is, I didn’t know what to do with what I felt.” Rossy leaned against the wall, keeping distance. “You didn’t even ask me my name.” “I remembered your face,” he said. “Every damn second after that. I looked for you, but I didn’t think I deserved to find you.” His eyes met hers. “And then you walked into my office… like fate wasn’t done with me yet.” Rossy’s lips parted slightly, her heart torn between ache and anger. “You don’t get to romanticize this,” she whispered. “You were just supposed to be a one-night mistake. A secret.” Thomas moved closer, slowly, watching her carefully. “Then why did it feel like more?”She looked down. “I had a boyfriend, Thomas,” she said. “I lost my virginity to you. And I hated myself for that—for weeks. I still don’t know how to feel.” His face softened. “I’m sorry. I never meant to complicate your life. But I need you to know—I didn’t plan this. I just… I can’t forget you, Rossy.” Silence stretched between them. “I don’t trust easy,” she said finally. “And right now, everything feels like a storm waiting to happen.” Thomas took a risk—he reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Then let me be your shelter.” Rossy didn’t move, didn’t speak. But she didn’t pull away either. Later, after he left, she lay in bed staring at the ceiling. Her heart whispered his name. But her mind still clung to the fear: What if he breaks me? She wasn’t sure she could survive it again.
