Chapter-1 Sarah’s point of view As soon as I entered the building, an angry looking Kenna greeted us. She was angry with me because, a few days ago, I promised her to go shopping with her, but I ditched her yesterday and even forgot to wish her last night. Yes, today is Kenna’s birthday. She was staring at me with an annoyed face and I added fuel to the fire by coming to university late, as we did not really get time to talk once classes started. Kenna- how can you do this to me Sarah? You forgot to wish me my birthday last night and I was waiting for your message as always. You will never forget my birthday. Kenna has been my friend since my childhood. I do not remember much, but we became friends when she moved next door. Well…she was right; I have never forgotten her birthday since… However, for the last few months I have been distracted because of that dream. I have a strange feeling that I have never felt before. ** I was standing at the bridge near the countryside. I was sad and scared. Tears filled my eyes. I was confused. I did not know what to do or where to go. Tears were profusely running down my cheeks. My eyes were swollen from the crying. Suddenly, I noticed him heading towards me. His captivating eyes that betrayed me were staring back at me with a stern gaze. I started trembling as my legs became jelly-like and just as I stepped back, I tripped over a stone and fell from the bridge into the river. I struggled until my limbs gave up and I became unable to breathe just as I was about to lose consciousness, I felt strange yet familiar arms wrapping around my waist ...** She pouted like a child, making a childish angry face. I giggled seeing her like this. Actually, Kenna is the most cheering, smiling and kind person I have ever met. Chris was standing there silently the whole time staring at his phone, while we were busy talking. Chris- Sarah, are you doing all right? Do tell me if anything is bothering you. You have been looking more and more awful and tired for the last few months. I ignored it at first, but that does not mean I did not notice. He, out of the blue, said to me, worry clearly visible in his eyes. Sarah- I am okay, you do not have to worry. I replied to him with a grateful smile, but he was right. I am not sleeping well as I keep having the same strange nightmare for a few months every night that is disturbing me a lot. I feel suffocated every night. Kenna- hey, tell me too if something bothers you, okay? Sarah- yeah, we should head to class before the bell rings. I changed the topic immediately. After our classes, we headed to the canteen, as we were hungry. We were having lunch together when Kenna broke the silence. Kenna- I am throwing a party, you both have to come tonight. Kenna invited us as she chewed onto her cheese sandwich. Chris- where are you throwing it? He asked while playing with his phone. Kenna- It is at Rose Roosevelt villa. She replied, leaving both of us flabbergasted. I almost choked on my food, and Chris almost screamed. Chris- B….but it is haunted. How can you go there, Kenna? I do not think it is open to the public anyway. Kenna- come on, we all know these are just rumors and it was cheap to rent too. I managed to do so with few connections. She said, rolling her eyes at us while chewing on her food. Kenna- Are you afraid, Chris? She teased Chris; we both knew Chris would never accept that he was afraid of anything. Chris- Me? Afraid? What are you talking about? Why would I be scared? I was just a little bit shocked. Kenna- Then you will come, right? Kenna asked with a smile of victory on her face, as she is quite clever and very well knows how to convince us. Chris- I will, definitely. Kenna- you tell. She asked me but before I could mutter a word, she tried to make me feel guilty by showing a scar on her right wrist, reminding me of the time when I accidentally hurt her while snatching her doll in childhood. It was a tiny scratch that left a small scar, but I always felt guilty about that. However, as always, I could not do a thing except agree with her by nodding my head in defeat. God knows how long she will keep mentioning it to threaten me. We went to Queen's mall for some shopping for her birthday as I ditched her yesterday and to make up for that, I agreed to come with her. We selected a few dresses for Kenna and one for me as she kept on insisting that I buy a dress as well. It took us two hours. After that, I headed to my sweet little house where I found grandma waiting for me. I went inside but she did not realize that I was home and she was busy doing household chores until I engulfed her in a bear hug from behind. Grandma- why are you late? Anyways, have you eaten anything? She asked me with so much love in her voice, worry and love. That is all I feel when I hear her voice. Sarah- I was with Kenna and went shopping with her and, yes, I had lunch in the cafeteria. I am going to Kenna’s house for her birthday party and I could be late, so do not stay up late, and go to sleep early. I will be home as soon as possible. Grandma- okay, but do not be too late. She replied and headed towards her room as I made my way towards mine. I know I lied to her about going to Kenna’s house instead of telling her about the ‘ villa’ because I know she has been very superstitious and protective towards me since the accident and she would never allow me to go there if she knew and I would be back without her knowing, safe and sound or I thought so.
