Short Story

325 Words
The darkness seemed to have consumed everything in its path. The moon was gone, and all the lights were out on the street. All except for one, the single street lamp only gave off about a four foot circle. There was a child underneath the light, she was the only human left which was ironic because she wasn't human, she was Elcetrion. That was why the lamp was on, Electrions on earth give of electrical energy because of how their body interacts with the atmosphere. The girl was sitting next to a dead human, the smell of burnt flesh hung in the air. She looked up as the moon drifted back from behind a cloud. The light uncovered everything, the girl watched as it uncovered the dead humans and electrions. She hated it. The two species had coincided together peacefully for centuries until the president put a worldwide target on their backs. The child's parents had told her to stay inside and hide when the humans had come that night. She had hid in the closet by the door and heard her father plead that they had done nothing to harm anyone. That had been four hours ago, she had listened as her parents out of terror, killed many of the humans there. The humans agonizing screams still rung in her ears. Their neighbors had been Electeions too, all of them had been dragged out onto the street as well. They lay dead around her gunshot wounds in their arms and face. The girl sat still, overcome with grief, so numb she could barely move. The silence so loud, that the rustle in the bushes behind her, made her jump up skin crackling with energy. She breathed a sigh of relief when a kitten jumped out and walked up to her. She crouched to pick it up when a note fell from it's collar. Her heart stopped as she read it, "we know your alive".
