I was worried she’d start digging, and I knew she was smart enough to find whatever it was she was seeking—or at least something close to it. My nerves grew from a small wave to a rolling storm. Maybe I should’ve told her the truth. Told her what lurks in the dark. There’s more than just us out there… she’ll find out there are many more species than just humans and Selkies, and if my hunch is right, whether she knows it or not, she’s one of them.
