Chapter Four

After a while, I closed my laptop. I sighed and looked up at him. He still had that cocky grin on his face. I internally screamed. f**k why was his smile so damn hot? “Thank you.” “For what exactly?” His head tilted to the side. “I don’t know, but for some reason, you seem to be boosting my mood. I don’t know why, but your presence is warm, and I enjoy your company even if I barely know you.” His gaze fell as he sighed. He slowly got up. The warmth that was emitting from his face withered, like a dying rose. Did I say something wrong? f**k I hope I didn’t… “Please don’t get attached. However much I want to stay here in this lovely port town… I don’t know if I’ll be able to.” With that, he left. I bit down on my lip and looked down. The warmth that had washed over me quickly left with him. Did I say something wrong? Did I already f**k something up? Something may or may not have happened. To me, though, this showed I was still cursed. Damn it all to hell. Why me? Lilah chuckled. “Man, I think you dove in too fast and too hard. Remember, he’s the town’s newest blood. Don’t press too hard.” “I… I was just saying—” Lilah put her hand in the air, cutting me off. “Look, he’s some mysterious guy who showed up out of nowhere. Very handsome, as well. I know you want to find love again, but don’t jump on the first fresh meat you see.” Lilah looked towards the windows. “Even if he’s a fine piece of meat.” I looked down as I chewed on my lower lip. Lilah sat next to me and rested her hand on my shoulder. “Look, I wasn’t trying to be hasty or rude, C. I just worry about you, and you know I don’t sugarcoat things.” I could only nod before standing and grabbing my bag. I shoved my laptop into it hastily. I left the café quickly and ventured out into the town for some much-needed shopping therapy. I shopped until my heart ached less. It still stung, but the shopping spree lessened it and dulled it, making it livable. Making it easier to go on with my day. “So much for being a starving artist, huh, Father? Well, I guess my income comes mostly from keeping up on the lighthouse, but that’s beside the point,” I muttered into the chilly air as I walked home. “Damn it, they think they’re so mighty having normal jobs. Like mine doesn’t count.” I was fuming. I was tired of them thinking they were better because they had typical jobs. I trudged down the sidewalk, the clouds above me getting darker. I looked up, and my shoulders slumped. “Really? Out of all the times I forget my f*****g umbrella, it has to start to rain. Just my luck.” A black car pulled up, and the tinted driver’s side window rolled down slowly. “Get in before you get soaked.” His husky voice floated towards me like music. I hesitated before I decided to get in. I mean, not the smartest move, but I also didn’t want to be caught in this downpour. I opened the passenger side door and clambered in. “Thank you. Also, I’m sorry for what I said earlier.” He nodded. “Where is your house?” “Just down Main Street about three blocks. It’s a small blue cottage, attached to the lighthouse.” We drove in silence for the rest of the way to my house. The silence encased us like a cocoon. I looked outside, forehead resting on the cool window. The rain outside was really coming down now. He pulled into the driveway and put the car in park. “Thank you.” “No problem. Just remember your umbrella next time. Don’t need you to catch a cold.” I nodded and smiled back at him as I got out of his car. I needed to cast one last glance at his face: he was focused, off in his own little world. I shut the door, and he drove off. The rain continued into the night. The waves crashed into the shoreline. The sound lulled me into a deep sleep. Far-off voices called out to me, begging me to get into the water. Begging me to save them. My breathing quickened; my brain told me to run, but my feet disobeyed. I walked into the dark water, and hands quickly grasped at my ankles, pulling me down further underneath the water’s surface. I woke up drenched in sweat, and my breathing was heavy. Why did I have to have these nightmares? I looked out the window. The waves had slowed, more of a rolling motion than crashing. The rain was now just a drizzle… I took a shaking in hale as I sat up. “Well, there goes any more sleep for tonight.” Weeks went by, and I still visited the café regardless of the f**k up I’d made during my last encounter with Felix. However, the mysterious man was nowhere to be seen. I started to realize a part of me missed him. A very small part, that is. I wasn’t aware of why or how he had gotten a smidgen underneath my skin, but he had. I also wasn’t sure how I felt about it. A pang of longing and wanting to be held and loved again slowly started to consume my inner thoughts. My writing was now more promiscuous than it had been before these buried feelings had started to crop up. “What is he doing to me?” I said out loud to the waves that crashed onto the beach, “Why am I feeling this way, this lust for a man I barely know? One who may seem cold, but I can sense a fire within.” I sighed heavily. My thoughts drifted off as my gaze rested on the horizon. The sun was setting into a beautiful watercolor mix of purples, pinks, and oranges. I wanted nothing more than to feel his lips crash into mine and for his hands to roam across my body. I wanted him to take me as no one else had ever done before. I wanted to be like one of the women in my stories, to be possessed and ravished. How could I get him to at least notice me so I could have that chance? I laughed and shook my head. Damn, I really just need some d**k, because this was a whole new level for me. I reached down and stroked my c**t underneath the sundress I was wearing. Images of his face flooded through my brain. I moaned as I plunged my fingers inside my cunt. I needed to release this s****l frustration one way or another. I imagined his hands gripping my wrists, him claiming me. I fantasized about the size of his c**k, and I came hard, right there on the beach. It was quick, but I hadn’t touched myself in months, and damn did I need it.
