We’re in a forest of tents weighted down with dumbbells in the middle of Sporting Goods. Underneath is AstroTurf and if I really close my eyes and pretend, it’s almost like we’re camping. Somebody has stuck thousands of glow-in-the-dark galaxy stickers on hundreds of metres of suspended ceiling. The kids light the Kmart with a thousand candles–scented, votive, religious, little tea lights, huge Mickey Mouse candles. A civilisation living on old candles, old popcorn, rubbish, wreckage, and Kmart crap. Jesus Christ: I’m back in Moneyland. It’s late and my body is crying for food.
