Vixor’s POV Vixor comes in aware he’s late and totally pissed with himself. He wanted to come earlier and give her the first surprise as best friends. “Mother, where’s Dova? Good day.” His eyes rotate around the living room trying to find his best friend but he doesn’t. Mild panic sets in his heart but he stills himself and goes ahead to remain calm. “Oh dear, check the rooms and the backyard. You know, she doesn’t like to spend her birthdays with people.” Her mom had a smile on but anybody with eyes would see that she was in pain and was only barely managing to hold on for a little while. He nodded his head at her and he went into the rooms to find Dova. In the passageway,he catches faint sounds of sobs and he rushes there to comfort his best friend. “Dova?” He walks step after step to the door where he can trace the sobs from. He knew fully well he was among one of the werewolves to be described as powerless so he tried his very best to avoid trouble at all times. “Dova?” He pushes the door open maintaining a firm grip on the door still afraid. “Vixor? You came?” She blinked her long watery eyelashes happy Vixor came. She had made up her mind to confide in someone about this secret that has been eating her up and she couldn’t bear it with herself any longer. “Yes,Dova, I came. Is that why you’re crying? You know I wouldn’t miss your birthday for anything in the world. Even with the full moon.” He spread his arms emphasizing the full moon unaware he was tormenting Dova with the one thing she hated the most. “No Vixor, I,I know you wouldn’t miss my birthday for anything.” She dragged the snot running down her nose and tried to control her tears. “Let it out momma.” He patted her head with his hands. She stared at him straight in his yes tryingvto search for sincering of really he would stay with her secret. “Vixor.” She crashed into his sturdy shoulders and buried her face in his neck. Rubbing her tears on his shirt to wipe herself. Vixor swallowed hard and immediately distracted himself. “Promise me something.” She stared to look at him. But Vixor was already drowned in her eyes. The tears in her eyes made her beautiful eyes to pop, coupled with the moon. Just her tears would undoubtedly bring any man to his knees. “You’re…you’re really beautiful under the moon.” He stared at her face memorizing each of her facial features engraving it into his face. He had been doing this for years. He has had feelings for Dova but could never bring himself to say it straight to her face. One of his biggest challenges. The thought came to him but his tongue was tied and it wouldn’t just move no matter how hard he tried to. He couldn’t even lift it from his teeth to form a proper sentence. “The moon? I hate it. It makes me sick to my stomach. I hate the face that I was born under it. I hate how it has tormented me for all of my life. I hate it, I hate how it has subjected me to celebrate my birthdays with just myself. Every other werewolf celebrates their birthday just the way they want. Why? Why do I have to be the cursed one? Why?” The tears started falling from her eyes again but Vixor stood there confused. Unaware of the right expression to comfort her with at this moment. “Dova,is there anything you’re hiding from me? What do you mean cursed? Dova, what’s going on?” He furrowed his eyebrows confused at her outburst. He was the only one that could tell at a glance what was going on with Dova but now, even he seemed to be lost. “Vixor, promise me,promise me this stays between us. Swear to the moon goddess that what I’m about to say to you would never enter another’s ear. Promise me Vixor.” She held his face in her palms, her face searching his for the slightest hint of uncertainty. “Dova, every secret we’ve ever had has always stayed between us. This would not be any different.” He clenched his fist and neutralized his gaze but inside he was dying. He wished she would hold him like this but not as friends as lovers and still yet,he only had himself to blame. “Vixor, I” She broke down in tears again. “Dova,it’s okay. If you can’t say it to me now, I will always be here, okay?” He rubbed her shoulders. “No! This guilt,it’s eating me up. I can’t live with it any longer.” She shook her head furiously as she explained with tears. “Then what is it?” “I,Vixor, have you ever wondered why I always celebrate my birthday alone? And why every time, the full moon appears on my birthday?” She started playing with her fingers unable to look him in the eye. “No,my thought have never wandered towards that question. I just thought you enjoyed your space. Why?” “I was born under that stupid full moon and every time the full moon appears, I become immune to it.” She stared at him from under her lashes, myriad of emotions passing through her. She was relieved she finally let such a huge burden off her chest and shared it with someone and she was scared he would run away after this. “Oh my God,Dova,do you what this means? This means you don’t have to be afraid of humans on the day of the full moon while we’ll run away unable to cater for our own selves. You would be invincible. I’m jealous.” “It doesn’t end there. And it’s not as exciting as you think.” “What do you mean?” “Every time I transform during the full moon, I lose my powers and my werewolf features gradually wear off with each full moon. If this continues. I will turn to be a full blooded human in no time.”
