CHAPTER 38 After Chris left for work at 12, I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t concentrate on reading, I browsed TV channels without knowing what I was looking for, I did chores half-mindedly or not at all for fear of disturbing Gary’s sleep. I tried to go online, but that didn’t settle my mind either. I finally gave up and threw myself on the sofa to wait for something to happen. I knew that the next thing to happen would probably be Chris returning from work, which would be followed by a fight because Gary was still in our house. I had no intention of throwing him out, not in his current state. Maybe never. Around three in the afternoon, my phone rang. It was Suse. “What’s going on? Did Gary find you?” were her first words. “He’s still here.” I sounded tired even in my own ears. I
