CHAPTER 26 A week later and a few minutes into the TV programme Gary was on, Suse walked in, shower-fresh in her pyjamas, and sat down on the sofa next to me. “It’s Gary!” she exclaimed as if I hadn’t realised. “So it seems,” I said dryly. Suse glanced from the TV to me and back. “Isn’t it strange to see him on TV?” She wrapped her arms around her knees. Her eyes were fixed on the screen where one of the other contestants embarrassed herself by answering an easy question spectacularly wrong. “Not really. I’m used to it. I see more of him on TV than in real life.” Suse muttered something that I took to be agreement. “Is he as good-looking in real life?” “Better-looking.” Although I had seen more of Gary on TV and in photos, I was surprised every time by how much better he looked in
