THE BABY SHOWER 😘

--- *Chapter Title:* `The Baby Shower` *Chapter 9: The Baby Shower* Elizabeth Hart insisted on throwing a baby shower. "For the heir," she said. Like the baby was a company asset. Damian wanted to say no. But I said yes. "I want to do this," I told him. "For the baby." So now I was standing in the Hart mansion ballroom. 50 women. All in designer dresses. All staring at me. "So you're the waitress," one woman whispered. "I heard she trapped him," another said. I kept my smile. For the baby. Damian was at my side the whole time. His hand on the small of my back. "You're okay?" he murmured. "I'm okay," I lied. Then the doors opened. And my heart stopped. Victoria. Damian's ex. Tall. Blonde. Perfect. In a red dress that cost more than my rent. "Damian," she purred, walking straight to us. "You didn't tell me you got married." Damian's body went rigid. "Victoria. What are you doing here?" "Mother invited me," she said, looking at Elizabeth. "She thought I should be here. For old times sake." Old times. My stomach twisted. Elizabeth smiled sweetly. "Yes. Victoria and Damian were together for 3 years, dear. She knows the family very well." I felt sick. Victoria turned to me. Up and down. "And you must be... Anovia. The new Mrs. Hart." She said "new" like it was temporary. "Nice to meet you," I said, voice steady. "Is it?" Victoria laughed. "Because Damian and I were supposed to get married. Before you came along." The room went silent. Damian stepped forward. "That's enough, Victoria." "Is it?" She put a hand on his arm. "You still love me, Damian. I know you do." Damian looked at her hand. Then at me. And he did something I will never forget. He pulled his arm away. And took my hand instead. "Let me make this clear," he said, loud enough for everyone to hear. "Anovia is my wife. The mother of my child. The future Mrs. Hart." He lifted our joined hands. "Anyone who has a problem with that can leave." No one left. Victoria's face fell. "You're making a mistake, Damian." "No," he said. "The mistake was you." Victoria stormed out. The room buzzed. Elizabeth looked furious. But she couldn't say anything. Damian turned to me. His thumb brushed over my knuckles. "Are you okay?" he whispered. I nodded. Tears in my eyes. "Yeah. Because of you." Later, when everyone was gone, Damian found me in the nursery. "You didn't have to do that," I said. "In front of everyone." "Yes I did," he said. "Because you're mine, Anovia. And I'm tired of pretending you're not." He knelt in front of me. His hands on my bump. "I'm sorry about Victoria. About my mother. About all of it." I touched his hair. "You don't have to be sorry anymore." Damian looked up at me. "Then what do I have to be?" "My husband," I whispered. His eyes darkened. He stood up slowly. "Anovia..." The doorbell rang. We both jumped. Damian frowned. "Who is that?" "I don't know," I said. He went to answer it. And when he came back, his face was pale. "It was a delivery," he said. "For you." He handed me an envelope. Inside was a sonogram photo. But not mine. And a note that said: `This is Damian's real baby. You need to leave.` My blood went cold.
