Tabitha walks into the castle, hand in hand with Casper. Sitting him in a bar stool, “Are you okay Casper?”
“I’m okay Luna’s friend.”
Tabitha chuckles and leans on the bar, “My name is Tabitha. Call me Tabitha.”
“Okay.”
“Are you hungry Casper?”
He nods. “Good, me too.”
Trent walks in the kitchen as Tabitha is putting a piece of cake on the table.
She smiles at him, “Hi Trent.”
“Hi honey. Hey Casper. What are you doing here?”
“Hello sir. Miss Tabitha was visiting and-”
Casper looks down. “Don’t worry Casper I’ll tell him.”
Trent looks at her, “What happen?”
“I went to see how Casper was doing. I know May wants him to be taken care of. He was getting bullied. The teachers had nothing to say, so I stepped in.”
Anger building in his chest. “What teacher? Our Luna is not going to be happy with this.”
No one says anything. Trent realizing that this isn’t the time, he’d speak to Gavin and see if Maylyn would like to handle it or he will himself.
“Don’t worry Casper. I will speak to the Alpha and the Luna. This will be taken care of.” He stands up, “Well, back to work.”
He walks over and kisses Tabitha on the cheek before walking back to the office.
Gavin and Maylyn arrive hand in hand at her favorite sailing spot. Both in a good mood after a hardy breakfast. He helps her onto the raft, and they sail to the middle of the lake.
They both lie on their back, talking and enjoying the sky. Maylyn taking a piece of dark chocolate from her shorts pocket and unwrapping it. “What do you have?” Gavin searching for a reason for the noise.
“Its chocolate. Want some?”
“No thanks. I don’t really like chocolate.”
“What? How is that possible?”
He chuckles. “Yeah. Its never been my thing.”
“Crazy silly. Chocolate is like breathing!”
He laughs at her, “Tell me about your family Maylyn.”
“Hm, well I honestly don’t know too much Gavin. I was young when they killed themselves. I’ve been alone for a long while.”
“What are your feelings about their deaths.”
She closes her eyes, enjoying the orange from the sun and her closed eyes mixing. “My feelings… I never understood why they would leave me alone. I just never understood why, and I was really mad at them. After Randy I understood a bit and I was able to at least visit them. But once I came here with you and I understood what it is to have a mate. I don’t condone what they did to me, but I have a better understanding. I don’t think I would want to live if I we were to part.”
“I hope we never get to that point. I don’t want to live without you either.”
“Gavin?”
“Yes, love?”
She opens her eyes, sits on an elbow and turns toward him, “How long have you been alive? And have you had another mate?”
He looks at her and sits up. “I have been alive for a really long time.”
“Why do you still look so young?”
“Honestly, I don’t the answer to that. I, and Trent for that matter, stopped aging once I was crowed. I’ve looked like this for at least 500 years, maybe more.”
“For 500 years, maybe more?”
He chuckles, “Yes, I’ve been alive for some time.”
“So, what about a mate.”
“Oddly, and I say oddly because my mother is my father’s third mate. You are my first and only.”
“What? Really? What?” Maylyn sits up and looks down at him, “That doesn’t even make any sense. How are you alive for so long with no mate?”
“I don’t know, you’re it. As long as you don’t die in battle or anything like that, you’ll live forever with me. Until our heir succeeds the throne from me.”
“Did you have many girls?”
“Are you sure you want to know about this Maylyn?”
“Yes Gavin. I understand that you were single, and I’m sure had many hoes.”
He chuckles shaking his head, “Yes. I’ve had some hoes. Only a couple since I took the throne. The Kingdom is a lot of responsibility and the girls ended up being more work then pleasure. I found it easier to focus on the Kingdom.”
“Oh, so you just decided to wait for your mate.”
“Yeah and it turns out it was the best thing for me. To think I could’ve or would’ve missed out on you.”
One month later
Maylyn lays on her wood raft, music in her ears, enjoying the time alone. I feel something is wrong, Like, something is coming. Gavin and I are good. Tabitha and Trent are good, still not mated thou. Tabitha… she’s a work in process.
Changing the song and smelling something unfamiliar. Sitting up and eyes at the dock. “Who are you?”
A lone wolf stands at the dock looking at her. Now, Maylyn is not scared. She is a powerful being. Her eyes scanning the man but seeing straight into the wolf. She smiles, “You’re here to scout me. Tristan sent you. Tell me his plan.”
The man does not reply, only drops his shoulder and runs away.
She grabs the paddle and rows back to the dock. Her time here has come to an end. Reaching the dock, standing up and tying up the raft. Stepping on the dock and hearing Casper, “LUNNNNnnaaa!”
Smiling and wrapping him in her arms as he runs to her. Holding him on her hip as they walk back to the castle. “How are you Casper?”
“I’m good today Luna. Why do you smell like that?”
Maylyn’s smile fades, “Smell like what Casper?”
“Something, not good. You need to shower, or Alpha will be mad.”
Chuckling, “Thank you for the advice Casper. I’ll drop you off at the pack house and I’ll take that shower.”
“No Luna, I want to stay with you.”
“Well, how about you stay in the guest room. Alpha doesn’t like you taking his time away.”
He smiles shyly, “Okay. Thank you, Luna. I will also thank Alpha.”
Finally walking into the castle, Tabitha turns the corner and looks at her. “May, what are you doing?”
Maylyn puts down Casper, “See I told you Luna.”
“What?” Looking at Tabitha.
“You smell bad. Like, cold and dirty.”
“Hey,” they hear as Trent walks in the room. “Oh god, what’s that smell?”
Casper laughs. “May, is that you?” Trent looking at her with a worried expression.
“I guess so?”
“What happen today. Who where you with?”
“No one Trent. I was out on my raft and there was some lone man on the dock. But I didn’t get close to him.”
“Maylyn.” Trent, very serious, “Tell me what you know.”
She presses her lips together.
“Casper,” Tabitha calls while picking him up. “Why don’t we see what we’re having for dinner.”
Maylyn watches Tabitha and Casper walk out of the entrance area. “I don’t know a lot Trent.”
“Okay, tell me what you saw Maylyn.”
“He looked lost. His wolf told me he was a scout for Tristan. But he himself never said a word to me. He was only there for maybe 5 minutes. Don’t tell Gavin.”
“Why? You're his Queen. This is clearly something he needs to be aware of.”
“Trent please. I don't wa-”
“No. You remember what we agreed on in the beginning. We think of him first. He needs to know about this, and you need to shower.”
“Trent pl-”
“No Maylyn. When he gets back, I will make him aware if you don’t.” He almost declared in a shaking the room tone before walking out.
Sighing and walking to her bedroom for a shower.
