Chapter 4 - Him Again?

2150 Words
Sitting in the meeting room, waiting for Lady Luna to appear. Gavin is out of his mind at what could be happening. All he wants is to be with his mate and all she wants to do, apparently, is turn him on and run away. “Is that really what you think?” Hearing his brother in his mind and looking at him, “I don’t know? I’m trying to reason here, and I’ve got nothing.” “You just can’t believe someone is actually running away from you. You, the King.” The laughter in his mind from his brother is deafening. Throwing him a bad glare, “Don’t worry brother, the Lady Luna will set us true.” “Forgive me King Alpha.” Lady Luna apologize as she sits next to her Alpha. “I’m ready to hear Maylyn’s story. I find she runs from me. Something scares her. I need to understand my role.” Lady Luna glances at her Alpha. This rubs him wrong, again, he’s not used to any push back, unspoken or otherwise. “Lady Luna?” “I apologize King Alpha. It’s just I haven’t heard her name in so long.” “Why is that?” “She asked me not to use it.” He nods, “I see. Please begin.” Lady Luna nods. “Songbird found her mate at 18. He was someone she’d known all her life.” The story is already keeping all his attention.    “He was a Dom.” Feeling the wolf side starting to rage while pacing back and forth. “Songbird’s parents died of causes related to the Dom personality. Her father went to far one day. Fearing he killed his mate, her mother, he killed himself. When her mother woke up and found her mate was dead, she did the same.” Gavin feels calm again. “She has always hated anything with the lifestyle when she learned the truth. She attempted with her mate.” Lady Luna shakes her head and pushing her lips together; “She couldn’t do it. She cried horribly the full way through.” Trent fills in the rest, “Her mate rejected her.” “Yes. She accepted the rejection, as to not hurt him. She paid the price with her wolf. She has not been able to shift since that day. I’m not sure if she cries over her lost mate, lost parents, or lost wolf, or maybe all of them.” “I see.” Gavin feeling the need to really think about this. “Please King Alpha. If you are anything like her old mate. Please release her. I don’t know if she can take anymore loss.” Standing, “Thank you for your time Lady Luna. I will take my leave.” Gavin and Trent stand and leave the meeting room.  Walking out toward the lake with his brother. Gavin needs to talk out loud; “What loss.” “Yeah no kidding. I’m actually impressed she is so stable.” Looking at Trent, “Yeah, I agree.” “But you’re really not concerned with that. Did her past help you understand why she runs.” “I think so Trent. My assumption is night one, she ran scared to have a mate. Night two, to find my title, she assumes I am a Dom as well, as I assume most Alphas would be, needing control. And time three, when we were kissing, I took her hands and held them over her, which made her assume I am a Dom and this was a situation with her first mate. I believe her wolf will resurface when I mark her.” “Oh, but what’s really killing you is, can you say something about her past without her having told you about it. And if you do, how will she accept you checking up on her.” Looking at Trent, “Shut up. You’re in my head too much.” They laugh again. They are too close for either of their comforts. “But a serious question Gavin. How long do you intend to stay here? You have a kingdom to run.” “I don’t know, I won’t leave without her.” “You need to make things clear. This small pack is not the only one that needs your attention.” Gavin nods, “Let’s go back. I want to see her.” Standing outside of Maylyn's bedroom door. Gavin knocks, but there is no answer. Turning the door handle, feeling it locked. Sending a little power into his hand and the door unlocks. He opens the door slowly to the dark bedroom, his eyes adjusting as if it was day. Closing the door behind him; she is lying on her side on the bed. A low growl in his throat and fully turned on! She is sleeping in underwear with a groining line exposed. Her breasts sweep out from the bottom of her half tank top, her arms above her head. He can’t image the position is comfortable, but she looks good. Bending down in front of her and calling her name, “Maylyn.” She stirs, bringing her hands to her chest. “Maylyn.” She opens her eyes; he gasps for breath and understands there will never be another. She falls back to sleep. Touching her face, she gasps, wakes and opens her eyes confused; “Gavin?” “I’m sorry for this afternoon. I didn’t mean to scare you. It’s just the thought of-” Her eyes closing, she reaches for his face, her nails graze down his lip, “Sleep with me.” “Are you sure my love.” With her eyes still closed, she turns toward the other side of her bed, picks up the blanket she pushed to the wall, and gets under. He smiles, takes off his shoes and his over shirt, and a fast debate about his pants.  Siding with caution, he leaves those on. Lying on the bed under the blanket, reposition himself to be as close to her as possible. She smells so good. For that small moment of time his body was relaxed, gone. He is rock hard and her scent, might actually be, playing tricks on him. Putting is arm under her neck and the other draping around her, he spoons her while hiding his head in the crook of her neck and inhaling deep. Moving his hand from her to reposition his bulge, before hugging her again and closing his eyes and falling into sleep.  Maylyn's body has its own alarm clock. Waking and smelling Gavin everywhere, until she realizes it because he’s in her bed. Looking at his arm and hand, feeling so much more then tingles traveling through her body. Intermingling their hands, realizing she could possible already have him in her heart. The thought scares her, releasing his hand and getting out of bed. Once standing, her mind registers what she isn’t wearing. Dropping to the ground, in an attempt to hide herself before looking to see if he’s awake. Thank god he’s not. Standing up and scrambling to the closet, turning on the light and closing the door to get dressed. From the closet to the restroom and out of the bedroom. Down the stairs to do her normal morning chores. Keeping a vigilant nose and ear for a sign Gavin is awake and out of her bedroom. But as she finishes her chores, that sign never comes. About to leave to perform her normal routine, the thought of him going through her bedroom strikes her. It’s okay, there isn’t anything in there that I would be embarrassed by.  Lying on her back on her favorite raft, Maylyn looks up at the stars and attempts to reason with herself about him one, Gavin Knight. Why do I keep running? Why do I keep assuming he’s like everyone else? He’s been very nice and doesn’t make me feel like I have no choice in the matter. But am I ready to leave Luna and Yvonne? Maybe he’d let me stay here. No, I can barley stand being away from him now. There is no way I could stay; I mean once we complete the mating bond- Thoughts cut short as her first love seep into her mind’s eye. Why am I even thinking about him? “Oh hell!” Sitting up and looking in the direction of the cold dead flowers smell and he is already on the dock. “Hello Birdy. I was going to be away longer, but I couldn’t stay away. Why don’t you come here and talk to me?” Not saying a word. “Okay, so we need to do this again.” Tristan smiles and glances down embarrassed, “You know, I was actually hoping you’d think about me too. I see I was wrong.” His hand in the water and the raft moves toward him. Fast to turn off her music and put it in her sweater pocket. Her fear of him this time around is not what it once was. When the raft stops at the dock, she waits for him to tie it up before stepping on the dock.   “You’re not scared of me anymore Birdy. That’s good news. I wanted to talk to you a bit, hoping you would come with me freely.” “I will not go with you.” Maylyn says. He grabs her hand and brings her wrist to his nose, “Don’t say that Birdy. I want you to come with me, even if I have to kill everyone you care about.” Pulling her hand from him, “I will not go anywhere with you.” “What? Why Birdy. Do you have a mate?” “Yes, she does.” The attention taken to Gavin standing at the end of the dock. A relief flushes her body and turns her cheeks pink. “Who is this Birdy? And you’re all turned on?” Gavin stands next to her looking at Tristan; “Why are you here?” “I’m here to take Birdy with me.” “No. She is my mate. She stay’s with me.” “No matter, I’ll kill you and take her.” “Tristan." Gavin calls with authority in his words, "I don’t think this is a wise idea.” “Who are you to speak to me like this? Do you know who I am!” Anger in Tristan's tone and facial expression. Maylyn looks to Gavin, calm expression, no fear, no anger, like he’s only humoring Tristan with the conversation. Steeping behind him for safety and to watch everything. Her hands on his waist when she see’s water starting to stand on its own. “I’ll drown you dog and take what’s mine!” Gavin not even looking at the water. “Are you sure?” The water Tristan is controlling, falls back to into the lake before growing and rushing toward Tristan’s face! Stopping less than an inch from his face, the water takes the shape of Gavin’s face. Looking at Tristan’s shocked expression through the water, “Please leave and never return.” The water drops and splashes on the dock in front of Tristan. Tristan smiles, “See you around Birdy.” He turns and leaves the area.   Once Tristan is out of view, Gavin turns to her, “Are you okay Maylyn?” She nods, not wanting to break eye contact, “Yes, thank you my lord.” He wraps his arms around her waist, moving her body to face him. “Pleased don’t call me that Maylyn. I’m sorry I was late.” Maylyn looks down while putting her hands on his chest; “I’m glad you’re here.” Resting her head on his chest and wrapping her arms around his waist; “I’m sorry about yesterday.” He kisses her head, hugging her tight, and she is instantly ready to tear off his clothes. He chuckles, she knows he can smell her, “Yeah. I’m ready too.” Giggling, “I can feel.” “Maylyn, I need to understand what’s going on. I want to be with you, but I don’t know how, and I don’t want to upset you.” “I’m sorry Gavin.” “You want to go back on the raft and talk?” She kisses his chest, “Yeah and you can decide if you want to reject me.” He pulls her away holding her eyes; “What did you just say? Why would you say that to me? Do I mean nothing to you?” Seeing the hurt in his face and feeling anger in his chest, “I don’t mean it like that but….” “Are you thinking your past is something-” “Gavin, please.” Stopping him, feeling scared, he may leave her. “I’m sorry, I’m messed up and maybe you-” Grabbing him around the waist and pulling him close. Trying to dig her head into his chest, just wanting to be close to him. His mood changes and his anger calms. “I promise to listen to everything you have to say Maylyn and keep an open mind. But I have to leave soon-” “I’ll go!" Not letting Gavin finish his sentence, "I’ll follow you anywhere. I only ask one thing.” He lifts her face to look at him. “Tell me. If it’s in my power, I will grant your will.” “Don’t leave me. Don’t choose another over me. If you can’t promise me, don’t take me at all. I could-” Her words are cut by his mouth and tongue invading hers! The kiss is different, happy, thankful, and so full of lust. When the kiss ends, he picks her up and spins her around; “I will never love or need anyone more than you!” She yells in glee as he spins her around. Once stopped she looks down at him, “Come my reason. Let us speak to your Alpha about leaving this place for your new home and new pack.”
