We sailed to nowhere in particular for several days. The sea was at peace, and the sky was a picturesque canvas of blue and white. We had a gentle but steady wind for the first few glorious days. Jessie regained most of her strength. We talked about her health and what she wanted to do with the remaining days of her life. It was the most awkward conversation I had ever had. She wanted to be cremated and half of her ashes sent home to her parents and the other half spread in the lagoon behind our home. Then she said that for years, our love and more recently, our s*x were the only things that made her feel alive. And as usual, my Jessie had another, more earth-shattering pronouncement. She was pregnant. I had no question about paternity, given that Jessie always made her other s*x partne
