“How is she? I only heard she was shifted here yesterday.”
Mathu’s question took Janu’s thoughts again to Cheeru muthachi. She has no particular memories of that woman. She only remember a stern face which she wasn’t even sure was a real memory or a figment of her imagination from the description of others. All her brother did was to built a sense of foreboding which she only took as him spoofing her. At-least she hoped it was just that.
“She is not completely healed. A hip injury at her age will take a toll after all. She is out of pain for now but not able to walk yet. The vaidyan said to take it slowly. He advised her to take rest now and to not put pressure on the hips. He warned her that she will be in lot of pain in the monsoon if she is not careful.” Her mother replied.
“You were the one who found her, right?” Achu asked Mathu.
“Ah, yes. I was at the Vadakkeyil lands grazing my cow and cutting grass for fodder. The cow pulled free the peg it was tethered to and ran. My heart stopped when I saw it enter the lowest terrace here. Cheeru amma would have my head if it even nipped a grass from here. It was then I heard the call for help. She was lucky. Otherwise no one would have heard her. Nobody comes this way. But she was not happy when she saw me. Didn’t even allow me to touch her. I had to go and get someone from the Vadakkeyil house for help.”
