MATHU 3

238 Words
“How could she remember you? You never saw her after mother’s death, did you?” Her mother then turned to Janu. “Janu, this is Mathu. She lives nearby and used to work here when mother was alive.” "You should have continued here Mathu. What state has this house has become!!.” “You know I didn’t have much of a choice then, edalamma.” Both the women looked like they have bitten something sour by this turn of conversation. Janu was a bit curious but knew better than to ask. She will only anger her mother if it’s something sensitive. And not only that she finally seems to got hold of some of her memories.   “Oh yes, I remember now. You used to make me whistles and balls with coconut leaves. And crowns too. Decorated with jasmines.” How could she have forgotten Mathu. She was her favorite play-mate during the couple of times she stayed here, even though she only got very little time in between her work to actually play with her. Well... it’s been too long and she was too young. Mathu however lit up by her reply. “You remember all that! She then turned to her mother with a mock hurt. “Of-course she remembers me. We were best friends.” The other woman only shook her head with a smile. “Let’s get to work, shall we?”
