The room was clean comparatively. Janu realized her mother probably had just enough time to do the basic cleaning in this room only, when Cheeru muthachi was shifted yesterday. The windows were open and rays of the late morning sun were streaming in. The stale smell was less in the room. This was probably the most used room in the house- the room of it's only resident.
A bed made of blackwood stood in the center of the room. A wooden chest of drawers sat near it. A lot of bottles were arrayed on top of it, of which Janu thought at least some must be Cheeru muthachi's medicine. An earthen ewer and a brass glass were also on the chest. But her attention was soon drawn by another furniture in the room. A fancy wooden desk with two drawers stood next to the chest. It was uniquely crafted with a frame attached on top with a mirror in the center and four or five side pockets. An aamadappetti, a traditional jewelry box sat on top of the desk.
A wooden trunk box sat near the other side of the bed. A betel nut box was under the bed. A wooden mortar, a brass pestle and a brass spittoon sat near it.
