Chapter 9 Stunning Counterattack

1130 Words
After she had the conflict with Vincenzo last time, Barbara's situation became even more difficult. No one in the entire kitchen spoke to her except for the chefs who would snark at her when they were in urgent need of ingredients she couldn't prepare in time due to her heavy workload. But Barbara still endured it silently. If there was anything she learned from her years of serving the Gordon family, it was definitely patience. Barbara knew that being impatient at this time would only make her situation worse. If Hamza was dissatisfied and sent her back to her grandfather, then Barbara would have truly failed. Barbara waited patiently, waiting for an opportunity. The opportunity soon came. One day, Vincenzo suddenly changed his usual attitude of ignoring Barbara. He walked up to her with a smile and said in a very friendly tone, "Barbara, you've been here for a while now. You are the granddaughter of the big boss after all, so you don't have to do chores today. I have an important task for you." Barbara sensed a hint of malice from him. "Alright, I will definitely complete the task." Vincenzo smiled even wider. "Today, an old customer of Moonson, one of our shareholders, Mr. Duncan from the Everwin Group, has reserved dinner and would like you to prepare a main course for him. You know that we all are not convinced by your skills. If Duncan is satisfied, I'm sure you can convince everyone." Barbara caught the key point in his words and said, "Then what if Duncan is not satisfied?" A look of disgust flashed in Vincenzo's eyes. "If he is not satisfied... for the sake of the big boss, I'm sure you won't stay here, right?" Barbara felt a sigh of relief upon hearing Vincenzo's words. People who wore their intentions on their sleeves were actually the easiest to deal with. She had experienced this firsthand. "Okay, Vincenzo, I promise you. Can you please give me Duncan's information and a list of dishes he usually likes?" Vincenzo smiled even wider. "Of course, you should study Duncan's information carefully. We all believe that you can satisfy him. Good luck!" Before leaving, Vincenzo even patted Barbara's shoulder, making her shudder. Getting the information, Barbara saw that the preferred dishes section listed, crispy skin pigeon, braised pork belly with runny egg yolk, home-style croaker, steamed fish with crab and choy sum, grilled beef intestines with perilla, etc. They were all relatively tough meat dishes. She had an idea in her mind. Whether this information was true or not, the choice of dishes still had to start with Duncan. Barbara thought that since the Everwin Group and the Mcmillan family had always had a lot of economic dealings, Jasper should know him. Since making a long-term cooperation agreement with Jasper, Barbara had cooked for his grandmother many times. On the other hand, Jasper had never shown up once. It was time for him to fulfill his agreement. Barbara dialed Jasper's phone number. "Hello?" A deep male voice sounded. Jasper seemed to be exercising. Barbara vaguely heard his panting and asked, "Mr. Mcmillan, do you still remember our agreement?" Jasper chuckled. He sounded in a good mood. "Of course, Miss Hart, what can I do for you?" Barbara didn't waste time and got straight to the point. "I wonder if you know Duncan from the Everwin Group. I have some questions about him." After receiving an affirmative answer, Jasper provided Barbara with detailed information about Duncan's preferences, recent situation, and so on. As Barbara listened, she couldn't help but nod. She already understood Vincenzo's purpose and what dishes to make for Duncan. 'The deal with Jasper is truly a win-win situation,' Barbara praised herself inwardly. "Thank you very much, Mr. Mcmillan. It's a pleasure working with you." Barbara hung up the phone swiftly. On the other end of the phone,Jasper, who was resting on a chair in the rehabilitation room, was still stunned. Barbara actually hung up on him just like that, using him and then tossing him aside. No one had ever been so indifferent to him. The corners of Jasper's mouth curled up slightly, and his mood became even more pleasant. After hanging up the phone, Barbara immediately started preparing. She was going to make a hard dish that would satisfy Duncan. After processing a bunch of ingredients in a small corner where no one was around, Vincenzo came over to tell Barbara that Duncan had already been seated. At this time, Barbara was pouring the boiled brown viscous liquid into a small, exquisite yellow ceramic pot, putting it into a steamer, and carrying out the final steps. Vincenzo saw the dish she was preparing, and the mocking look on his face was almost unbearable. "In ten minutes, you will serve the food personally. An old gourmand like Duncan likes face-to-face communication the most." Barbara nodded obediently, and Vincenzo hummed a song and left, looking forward to a good show. Barbara said to him in her heart, "Just you wait, the good show is about to begin." Ten minutes later, Barbara appeared in the private room, holding the small yellow pot with a towel in her hand. Duncan looked stout, with the kind of appearance that should have been full of wealth. For some reason, however, his face was sallow and haggard. Vincenzo stepped forward with a fawning look on his face. "Duncan, this is a special dish prepared for you by our newly recruited chef. I guarantee it will suit your taste." Duncan nodded, and Barbara put down the small pot and lifted the lid. The aroma of meat immediately wafted out, making everyone present salivate. Duncan swallowed, but his face turned pale. He stood up and was about to leave. "Is this how Moonson disrespects the guests?" Vincenzo immediately put on a look of shock and said sternly, "Barbara, what kind of dish did you serve to Duncan? Don't you know that Duncan is a very filial son and is still in mourning for his mother, so he can only eat vegetarian food? His mother likes to eat vegetarian food. Are you simply not taking Duncan seriously, nor Moonson?" He immediately switched back to a fawning smile and said, "Mr. Sanders, I'm so sorry to offend you. The newcomer is ignorant. We will fire her from Moonson immediately. Please don't be angry. Fortunately, I have prepared another vegetarian dish for you." Barbara understood what Vincenzo meant and thought, 'So this was Vincenzo's plan. He wanted to make a fool of me so that he could drive me out of Moonson. Then he would then step in to solve the problem himself, leaving a deep impression on Duncan. What a good plan. Fortunately, I have prepared for it.'
