Chapter 4 The Truth

Hearing the man's deep voice, Barbara felt that it was somewhat familiar for some reason. She wanted to stand up and take a closer look, but suddenly, the pain in her abdomen intensified. A warm current flowed down her thigh, and Barbara blacked out.

Seeing Barbara collapse, the Hart family and the Gordon family, who were closest to her, took a step back in unison, as if afraid of getting themselves into trouble.

Andrew originally planned to rush over, but Daniela grabbed his arm tightly. Andrew looked at the unconscious Barbara, then at Daniela, who was pale and pitiful. In the end, he still didn't take that step.

On the other side, the man in the wheelchair whispered something to the subordinate in a suit beside him.

The subordinate nodded, rushed to Barbara's side, covered her with his coat, picked her up, and sped away.

With an ingratiating look, he went forward and said, "Oh my, Mr. Mcmillan, why are you here? You didn't say you would come. If you did, I would have sent someone to pick you up. My son has done something foolish. They're just ignorant children. Please don't mind."

Only then did everyone gradually come back to their senses, especially the reporters around them. They all excitedly picked up their cameras and wanted to go forward, but no one dared to make the first move.

A reporter thought, 'Could this be the legendary Jasper Mcmillan, the eldest heir of the Mcmillan family?'

Jasper seemed to sense her resentment and chuckled softly. His voice wasn't loud, but it instantly silenced the hall. "My chauffeur's dashcam just captured an interesting scene. Since everyone is here, let's just play it here."

With that, another subordinate beside him immediately took the dashcam and connected it to the computer used to project videos onto the big screen.

On the massive electronic screen, the scene of Daniela pushing Barbara down the stairs was playing.

Now, everyone could see clearly what happened. Barbara was standing on the stairs when Daniela rushed out from the blind spot, shoved her hard, and then dragged her hand. They felt down the stairs together. And Barbara never touched Daniela .

Daniela's vicious expression was fully displayed on the high-definition screen. All eyes were on Daniela, who had just looked so wronged.

Daniela's face turned pale. She looked at Andrew pleadingly, her fingers tightening around his sleeve.

Andrew shook off her hand in disgust. Remembering Barbara's pained expression, Andrew felt a tightness in his chest.

The half-minute video played on a loop on the screen, having already been recorded by the phones and cameras of those present.

Daniela wanted to say something, but Andrew pushed her away. He strode onto the stage and picked up the microphone.

"Sorry for the spectacle, everyone. We'll conclude the engagement party here for now. Please, keep everything that happened today confidential. I appreciate your understanding!" Andrew said.

After speaking, he walked away with a livid face, not even looking back. Daniela, at this point, had completely forgotten her "stomachache" act and hurriedly got up to chase after him.

Barbara woke up in the hospital bed, secretly lamenting that she had fainted twice in just two days. As soon as she turned on her phone, a bunch of messages popped up, from her father, her mother, Andrew, Caitlin, her best friend, and some familiar and not-so-familiar people. Before she could take a closer look, two news headlines jumped out.

"Breaking News! The mistress's scheme to frame the legitimate wife exposed in public—justice is served!"

"Breaking News! The untold story of Jasper Mcmillan and the Abandoned woman of the Gordon family"

Barbara was speechless. The headlines were becoming more and more outrageous.

She clicked on the news and saw that the video of Daniela pushing her down the stairs was all over the internet. The comment section was full of people scolding Daniela, calling it satisfying to see justice served.

As for the suddenly appearing CEO of Mcmillan Group, Jasper, Barbara only found him familiar but couldn't recall where she had met him.

Unbeknownst to Barbara, who was leisurely reading the news, the Gordon family was in complete chaos.

Kolton was roaring into the phone, "It's been all night. Why is the news still not withdrawn? Are you all incompetent fools?"

Daniela clung to Andrew's arm silently. She had spent the entire night crying and pleading with him, saying she only did it because she loved him too much. Andrew finally softened and forgave her.

Caitlin was still yelling, "That b***h has no sense! How can she sabotage her husband's family like this? Just wait till she comes back. I'll teach her a lesson!"

Andrew frowned and said, "Mom, stop it. Barbara and I have broken up. The woman I'm marrying is Daniela."

Caitlin's voice became even shriller, her finger pointing at Daniela. "What kind of shameless woman are you? Playing around is one thing, but you want to marry into our family? Do you think the Gordon family is like a public restroom where you can come and go as you please?"

"Shut up! Haven't we been humiliated enough?" Kolton shouted angrily. The person on the phone said, "Mr. Gordon, it's not that we don't want to remove it, but we heard Mr. Mcmillan gave a direct order to push the popularity of these two news to the top. We wouldn't dare go against Mr. Mcmillan."

Kolton's face turned even uglier when he heard this. He slapped Andrew across the face. "Look at what you've done!"

After hitting him, he glared coldly at Daniela.

Andrew stood in front of Daniela, blocking his father's sight. "I'll go find Barbara. She can't do this to me and Daniela."
