Avery’s POV The cabin felt like it was holding its breath, as if it too was aware of the weight of everything happening inside. Dominic’s arrival had turned the atmosphere into something sharp and heavy. Every sound—the groan of the floorboards, the rustle of the trees outside—set my nerves on edge. I sat at the edge of the couch, trying to focus as Dominic laid out his plan to Noah. A map stretched across the table between them, dotted with markings I didn’t recognize—safe routes, possible threats, and places Lisa’s influence hadn’t yet reached. The conversation was quiet but intense, each word weighed down by the risks they carried. “We need to strike her where she’s weakest,” Dominic said, his voice steady. “Her finances. Without her money, Lisa’s whole operation starts to crumble.”
