*Hospital*

Jay was doing all he could to comfort the two sisters in the hospital while their mom was still in the ICU room, but it was as if his efforts were in vain because the panic and crying got more serious from the girls.

"Why is all this happening to us? Where have we gone wrong in this world? Wasn't it enough that death took our dad away and my mom was also diagnosed of leukemia? We're struggling to cope with this unfortunate sickness and now death took the only brother and father that we've got! Why is life so cruel? Why? What is our sin that bad things keep happening to us?!" Kylie wails causing a scene in the hospital.

"Kylie please calm down, I understand how you feel and..."

"No you don't! You don't f*****g understand how I feel!" Kylie cut Jay off. "I feel a pain inside my heart that no one I mean no one can really understand how deep this pain is inside my heart. I've tried to pretend to be cool with all that has been happening in my family. Day in and day out I see my mom getting more pale like she's going to die any minute. Do I want to talk about the coughing of blood she passes through everyday especially at night? Or should I make mention of the nosebleeding, mouth ulcers, shortness of breath that makes me wonder if she'll survive the next minute?! And then now, Drake is gone forever!" she wails, tears pouring down from her eyes like heavy raindrops.

Jay could no longer get in control of the situation, he was too emotional to even pretend this words weren't hitting him hard in his heart. Julia on her part was crying it all out, deep inside her mind all her sister was saying was what she could have said but her voice has long been gone after the shocking news.

"My brother was doing all he can to get drugs that will keep our mom alive longer than the doctor said she's meant to live. He was the most special reason for her to keep living because she appreciated how loving, caring, and hard-working he was to not just her but to us his younger siblings. So why? Why should death take him away? Now look at how my mom has gotten worst over the news of her dead son! Who knows if she'll survive it? Who knows!" She yells holding her chest and she went down on her knees weeping so hard. "No! I hate living!".

"Kylie!" Nicole exclaims from the hallway, she was not alone, she was with Brad. Kylie gazes up to see both of them running towards their direction. "Kylie, Julia" Nicole catch up with them and first hugged Julia for a moment before letting go of her and went low to embrace Kylie.

Kylie sobs into the crook of Nicole's neck. "Nicole, Drake is dead. My only beloved brother is dead" she muffles hiccuping, while Nicole patted her back. Her own tears were sliding down her cheeks already. "Why is life so cruel to my family? What did we do to deserve this? I doubt my mom is going to survive it".

Nicole didn't like the pessimism coming from Kylie, so she released her from the embrace and held her chin. "Look at me, Kylie" she tilted her chin up and Kylie stared into her eyes. "I know what happened is really bad and sad but I don't want you to be negative about your mom's survival right now. She's in there fighting for her life, she needs you girls support and prayers right now. We can't loose two people today, that's never going to happen".

"Prayers?" Julia asks and all heads snaps up at her. "Our prayers don't get answered. Can't you see all that is happening? If there's a God who answers prayers then he should have protected my brother from such tragic incident and most of all, my mom shouldn't have been so ill from the start!" she spat angrily and ran out of the hospital.

"Julia wait! Julia!" Her sister and Nicole yells after her but she didn't pay attention to anyone.

"I'll go after her. Jay please keep an eye on them" Brad said and jogged towards the direction Julia had taken.

"Life is just so unfair" Kylie muffles and Jay squat and pulled her to a hug.

"It'll be alright" he whispers and kissed her head. Nicole got up and sat on one of the chairs by the side of the hallway and she covers her face with her palms and sobs quietly.

While outside the hospital building Brad has caught up with Julia. "Julia please hold on" he begs holding her hand and she stopped walking.

"Just leave me alone, I want to hide from the surface of the Earth. I can't keep watching all that is going with my family" she sobs.

"Please don't say that, you're too young to even think about that. I understand a lot of things has happen but you wishing to vanish from the surface of the Earth won't solve anything. I'm really sorry for the loss of your brother, you're not the only one that is hurting here, my heartaches badly over the death of my best friend and brother. Everyone is hurting, no one wished for this to happen..."

"But it happened! It happened, he's dead. My best friend and big brother is dead. Who is going to help me with my homework, pay my school fees, buy me cupcakes and ice cream, play all kinds of games with me, buy my mom drugs, rough my hair whenever I teases him? No one is going to do that anymore" she said weakly and more sobs emerges from her mouth.

Brad pulled her to his chest and embraces her. "This too shall pass, you'll see" he whispers.

After a long wait at the hospital, a male doctor finally came out to the hallway. Kylie and Co stood up and rushed up to the doctor. "Are you all Mrs Violet family?" he asks.

"Yes" they all answered.

"I'm sorry to tell you this but your mom's health condition is really critical right now, there's just a 10-15% chances of survival at the moment" he announces and gasps escapes from their mouths.

Kylie and Julia held each other hands and tears streams down their cheeks. This was a heartbreaking situation and it's almost knocking them off their feet.

"Doctor, please save her. Don't let anything happen to her, do everything in your power to keep her alive, please doctor. I'll give you all the money that you need but just save her life" Brad pleaded.

"The sickness has really eaten her up, the chances of survival can't be certain but I'll do my very best. I have to get back in there, please excuse me" the doctor said and exited the hallway.

"Did you hear that? My mom is not going to survive it" Kylie's voice went husky due to lots of crying she's been into.

"He didn't say she won't survive it, he said they're slim chances of survival but he promised us he'll do his very best to save her life" Jay said.

"Slim chances are like no hopes at all" Julia replied crying.

"Can you girls stop being negative minded? It does more harm than good in my opinion" Nicole said.

"Nicole is right, let's just be positive she'll make it out alive" Brad concurs and he embraces Julia while Nicole helped Kylie to sit on the chair.

An hour later, the doctor and two other nurses were out. Just like the first time they approached him, this time around it was with nervousness they did. "Doctor how is my mother?" Kylie asks holding Nicole's hand.

"Fortunately, she survived it. She's really a strong woman" the doctor announced smiling.

The five of them sighs with relief and hugged each other. A smile spread on their faces. "Although she's in the coma right now, it wouldn't be long and she'll wake up" the doctor continues.

"Thank you Jesus" Kylie mumbles.

"Doctor can we see her right now?" Julia asks.

"Yes but just one person at a time. I'll leave you guys alone now, I have other patients to attend to" he said and turnaround to leave.

"Thank you doctor" they chorused and he nods and walked away.

"Kylie, mom is alive!" Julia exclaims and hugs her sister.

"Yes she is" Kylie responded pecking her sister's head.

"You see, I told you guys she'll be fine" Nicole chirps and hugged Brad.

"Who is going to see her first?" Jay asks.

"Let my sister go first" Kylie said releasing Julia from her embrace.

"No, you're my elder sis, you should go before me. I really don't want to see mom all alone right now, I can't handle the emotions alone. So you should go in first" Julia objected.

Their gaze was fixed on Julia, they were all worried hearing her say that.

"Are you sure you're okay with not seeing mom?" Kylie asks and Julia nods.

"I'm really sure about this. Just go ahead and stay with Mom for as long as you can. I'll be with Nicole and the guys till you're out" Julia said and flashed a smile.

"Okay, please don't leave their sight, I'll be right back" Kylie replies and placed a kiss on her sister's forehead. "I'll be right back guys" she said to her friends and they nodded at her. She exited to the wardroom where her mom was admitted.

"Let's go and have some coffee close by" Brad said and they nodded and left the hallway.
