Angel

Angel stretched in her bunk before sitting up in the small space and putting on her boots and headset. "Give me a second girl" she told the pit bull who was whining at her from the passenger seat.

With practiced efficiency, Angel set up her coffee maker, before grabbing Cherub's leash.

After attaching the leash to the harness, Angel opened the driver side door and climbed down, while Cherub waited patiently for her. As soon as she moved out of the way the dog leapt from the truck and sat at her feet. "Good girl" Angel scratched behind her ear while praising her. Watching for trucks leaving, Angel walked Cherub to the dog run near the truck stop. Just as she was unhooking the leash her phone vibrated in her pocket while the robotic female voice sounded in her ear "Incoming call from dispatch, answer or ignore"

"Answer" Angel groaned when the call connected and she heard the overnight dispatcher's greeting "Good morning Angel, how is my damsel in shining armor today?"

"I haven't had my coffee yet John" Angel replied. His greeting was one he used when he needed something from her.

The sound of his laughter irritated her, so she asked"What can I do for you at O dark thirty?"

"I have a load going to Jacksonville, but the driver broke down last night, the dealership says they can't get it into the shop until Wednesday" John paused then added "It's due at the receiver Tuesday. It's an open appointment, first come kind of thing."

"I'm supposed to be heading home John, I haven't had home time in four months" Angel growled back.

"Jacksonville is what 30-40 minutes from Hilliard? You'd even get there 2 days before your scheduled home time."

"Fine, where is the load?" Angel groaned again, "But just because I will be getting home early doesn't mean I'll be leaving early John. I will spend Father's Day with my dad."

"Absolutely Angel, you're the best! This is way you're my favorite driver."

"I've already agreed, John. No need to lay it on so thick."

John's laughter was loud in her ear, before he gave the details. "The trailer is in the lot at the dealership. Freightliner in Forrestell, MO. I'm sending you the load information now. It should be on your tablet in a few. Thanks again my damsel"
