“Stupid Tony, I can’t help it, blame my father.” Alex sighed.
The serum that was given to Alex was similar to the one given to Steve but hers was more focused on her endurance than strength, while she was just as strong as Steve you wouldn’t be able to tell just by looking at her. She had run to France from Germany and was walking through the streets of Paris.
“Excusez-moi vous pouvez me dire où en nearest restaurant est? Alex had learned French in high school.
“Oui. prendre à gauche à l'angle et descendre deux blocs.” She answered.
“Merci beaucoup. Bonne journée.” Alex started walking away.
“Vous êtes les bienvenus , vous aussi.” She replied.
Alex had taken Tony’s wallet from his dresser after she had heard his conversation with Nick. She had stopped at customs to get his money exchanged for Euros. Who knew Tony carried so much cash in his wallet?
“I wish I had left a note for Dallas or Nick, they would’ve kept my secret and understood I needed to be alone for a while, plus they could’ve come with me, who needs guys anyway.” Alex kicked a stray pebble. “Steve probably didn’t even like me anyway.”
Alex arrived at the restaurant and ordered. She got a bottle of wine and poured herself a glass.
‘I could get used to Paris, they probably haven’t even noticed I left the country.” She took a sip.
“No, but we have.” A voice spoke from behind her.
Alex froze and looked in the ice bucket. The reflection was a very familiar one. Dallas’ father, alive and well.
“Nice to see you again Leigh.” Alex sipped from her glass again, trying to keep her voice steady.
“Ah, dear Alexis, if you tell me where your friends are heading good things will come your way, but if you disobey, well, let's just say that this little pressure will feel like solace compared to everything else we will do.” A knife was pressed into her back.
“Jakarta, they were going to Jakarta.” Alex gulped.
“Are you sure?” Leigh put more pressure on the knife.
“Yes, Tony told me we were going to Jakarta right before I left. Please, I left, I want nothing to do with them, I just want to live out my life as a traveler.” Alex begged, feeling the knife climb higher, giving her goosebumps as she felt the cold steel on the back of her neck.
“If we find out you are lying,” Leigh slowly dragged the knife across the back of her neck. “This will be the first of a long line of punishments.”
They left as quickly as they came and right before Alex’s meal arrived. No one had noticed a thing on the quiet Paris street.
Alex gently touched the back of her neck and winced when she laid her hand on it. She pulled her bloody hand back and hoped she got quick healing from the serum. She let her hair down to cover the wound. She left money on the table, picked up her bag and left.
She sent a quick text to Dallas.
Whatever you do, don't go to Jakarta. Leigh is headed there, go very far away! Please don’t be mad I left, I’ll come back when I’m ready.
WHERE ARE YOU!
Don’t worry, I’m safe. I won’t do anything stupid or anything to annoy Tony anymore.
You better text me every day, same with Nick and Steve. He’s very upset you left.
It’s not his fault. I’ll text him later. I promise. You guys stay safe okay?
I swear if you don’t learn some more combat moves I will personally kick your ass.
I will, I enrolled in a course already. I’ll be fine.
Dallas bit her lip hoping Alex would be safe.
“Dallas, what is the matter, you are unusually quiet?” Thor looked at her.
“Nothing dear.” She smiled and hid her phone discreetly.
“You had better not be lying to me.” Thor had crossed the room to be next to Dallas.
“I’m not, nothings wrong.” Dallas said.
“I’ll accept that, for now.” Thor went back to his suitcase.
Dallas left the room to go find Nick. Nick was in her room with Tony.
“Hey, Nick can I steal you for a minute?” Dallas knocked on the door.
“What’s up?’ Tony answered. “Nick’s going potty.”
“Well tell her the blue dolphin has backflipped to the Green deer and to take a stroll to the purple giraffe .” Dallas left Tony looking confused.
“She texted you?” Nick burst into the cafe nearest the hotel.
“Yeah, it was random and out of the blue but she told me she’s safe.” Dallas was so glad they remembered their codes they made up in 5th grade. It comes in handy.
“That’s awesome, did she tell you where she was?” Nick looked hopeful.
“No, but she’s somewhere in Europe, she told us not to go to Jakarta because my dad is going there looking for us and he couldn’t have gotten too far.” Dallas explained.
“Okay so this all went down just now before you came and confused the f**k out of Tony?” Nick said.
“Yes, It did and now we have to find her, before she gets in anymore trouble.” Dallas stood up.
“Then let’s text her, tell her we are coming with her and it’s only me, you and Steve.” Nick suggested.
“That sounds like a great idea. We’ll run it by Cap as soon as we get back and we will leave with or without him tomorrow.” Dallas and Nick walked out of the cafe together, hoping to find their best friend within 24 hours of her disappearance.
