I was cleaning the dining table after the royals had finished off their lunch, as I wiped the table when I heard a voice spoke from behind me catching me offhandedly as I let out a small shriek.
"Must you be so loud?" Lady Cecilia groaned as she eyed me with distaste. I only bowed my head in form of an apology.
"Go to your room and pack your things" was all she said before she stormed away, leaving me with a confused look. I finished first my task before I went to our room. There Lady Cecilia was standing looking quite annoyed and irritated.
"I thought I have said that you should be packing your things? Do you not know how to follow simple instructions? Where have you been? What a disgrace! Just go and pack your things!" with that she pushed me inside, not waiting for my excuse or my explanation.
I did not worry about packing since I only have a few items, mostly are clothes, I only own three long sleeved blouses, three long skirts, my undergarments and my necklace, the necklace that has been with me since I was seven.
The only item from my past.
I just gathered my clothes and put my necklace at the bottom of the bag before tossing all my clothes in. I exited the room and took a second glance at our room before I closed the door. Lady Cecilia started to walk and I walked behind her, the Royals and guards arched their eyebrows when they see me, they also held suspicion before they tore their gaze away from me and minded their business. I have noticed that the guards are more alert than they were before and I didn't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
We were now walking in a dark hallway that was slowly creeping me out, it was like she was leading us into the dungeons.
Lady Cecilia stopped in front of a room, and I froze, is this going to be my new room? I should have paid attention to where it was located but I was consumed in my own thoughts to even remember the path.
"This is going to be your new room" I nodded my head
I opened the door and it revealed a small room with a bed on the side and a small closet, there were no windows.
I placed my bag on the floor and examined the small room. It was colored in a red color and it was also freezing inside. I shivered and clasped both of my hands and rubbed them together hoping it would provide me with some heat.
"Thank you" I said to Lady Cecilia with a smile in which she rolled her eyes.
"You have 30 minutes to get used to your new room and to fix your things, after that you will go and help the other servants with the chores, they aren't going to finish it themselves. The celebration is going to take place in less than two days and we are in a hectic schedule so finish up putting away your things and meet me in the ballroom" with that she shut the door closed leaving me alone in this small, freezing room.
I did what I was tasked to do and hurriedly put away my things. I laid the mat on the floor and placed my blanket and pillow before standing up. I exited the room and began finding where the direction of the ballroom is.
I was really trying my best to find my way to the ballroom but I couldn't find it, there were so many twists and turns and I was having a very hard time right now. I tried not to groan and hoped that I will find the correct direction.
I was hoping that I would spot a guard and ask for directions and luckily I found one at the end of the hall.
Thank goodness.
I thought to myself and smiled as I walked closer towards the guard, I faced the guard and in one swept his hands where wrapped around my neck and I widened my eyes.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" he growled at my frightened face, I tried to speak up but only broken words and sentences came out and he looked even more angry as he growled again and tightened his arm around my neck.
With a deep breath I managed to speak up, "I can't breathe!" and he glared at me for a while, having a slight consideration whether he should trust me and loosened his grip but not completely, so that I could breathe.
"What are you doing here, human" he growled out the word 'human' with pure hate and venom.
"I was finding my way towards the ballroom, I am one of the servants here and I was relocated into one of the rooms. I couldn’t find my way out" I answered truthfully and he arched his eyebrows before he eyed me up suspiciously.
"I’ll have to ask Lady Cecilia if what you are telling is the truth, who knows maybe you are a potential killer, who is acting all innocent" he said and grabbed my upper hand tightly as he led us towards the ballroom. I tried to memorize the directions but I couldn't help but feel the pain when he didn't trust me.
We were now approaching the ballroom and Lady Cecilia was standing at one particular part of the ballroom and I gaped at the magnificent setting of the ballroom, the decorations where stunning! Each and every decoration was exactly placed at their perfect positions and even the colors perfectly complimented the beauty of the whole ballroom, the huge chandelier shone the whole ballroom and the flowers that were gathered at the ends of the walls were so beautiful that the ballroom looks like a beautiful garden, the tables where set in their positions and no one would struggle if they want to get out of their chairs because it was expertly placed wherein guests would not scrabble.
The table cloth of the glass tables reached the floor and it was colored gold with golden linings and the chairs were also made of gold, the throne though, was covered with gems, jewels and precious gems, the throne next to the King's was also draped with jewels and gems and I instantly frowned a lot more when I figured who the person who would sit there is.
"Lady Cecilia, I have been informed that this human is one of the servants here in the Castle, is this true?" Lady Cecilia looks confused before she nodded her head.
"Yes, why?"
"I thought that she was lying, I found her near the dungeons. I thought she was a spy" the guard said sternly, his eyes glaring at me. Lady Cecilia gave him a nod and looked at me with a known look before the guard went back to where he was guarding.
"I told you to come immediately to the ballroom and where have you gone to?! The dungeon! What were you thinking" she scolded me angrily before she shook her head and willed herself to calm down. I bowed my head in shame, I didn't mean to roam around, I was just trying to find my way towards the ballroom and I didn't even notice that I have reached the dungeon.
"I am sorry Lady Cecilia, it won't happen again" she scoffed and rolled her eyes as if she had heard that a thousand of times before.
"Don't make promises that you won't keep, now go back to your work!" and I did what I have been told, we have been working and working, checking yet again if there were anything that was out of place or where noting their proper places but they were all in their correct places.
I heard giggles and shrieks, I peeked my head out of the door and saw that Amanda was clutching many bags as she hugged the King and squealing as she kissed him.
"Thank you Aiden for this early presents that you have given me! I love all the dresses and jewelries that you have bought! Thank you, thank you!" she said and then squealed again, I heard the King chuckle as he wraps his arms around Lady Amanda's waist and pulled her into a tight hug and whispered in her ear.
"Anything for my Queen" that is when I removed my head from peeking and I turned my back to the door and took a deep breath and consciously told myself not to cry.
My heart feels like its breaking apart, slowly but surely. It was as someone ripped my heart out, I took a long and deep breath before returning to tend my unfinished work.
I went back to my room-or cell and sat on the floor, I placed the mattress on the floor along with my pillows and my blanket, I sat in an Indian style and touched my hair as I ran my hair through them, whispering a soft tune. I was trying to calm myself down as I closed my eyes, trying to forget what I’ve heard and seen but it hurt so much.
I unclosed my eyes to stare at the wall, what would be the feeling of falling in love? Would it be wonderful? Ecstatic? I just have to dream, and dream, and dream. Until life hits me with a full force of reality.
