The next two weeks were a blur of publicity interviews, photo shoots, and hair and wardrobe makeovers, shepherded by Amber, Laurie’s young and scarily efficient publicist.
Carla’s first TV appearance was on Good Morning Australia. At the crack of dawn, she found herself plastered in thick make-up, squeezed into a low-cut designer dress, given a polystyrene cup of gritty coffee, and hustled into the studio and onto the famous green couch. Her stomach was somersaulting. The two well-known presenters, Anne and Greg, looked alarming at close range, like smiling assassins in eye-popping jackets.
