Laurie stared at the email from Carla as if it were an obscene joke. She wanted the baby, she wanted the career, she wanted it all – even if it broke him and destroyed his marriage.
Only 24 hours back from Fiji and tension was tightening its grip on him again.
He sat down and uncorked a bottle of wine from a box someone had left on his desk. He found a dusty glass in his bottom drawer and gave it a wipe before pouring in the Shiraz, spilling a little on his pile of unread newspapers. He swallowed it quickly and welcomed the earthy, blackcurrant taste.
