Break A Leg
Carla was on the bus going home from work when Laurie’s PA rang to say he’d lined up an audition for her. She screamed with excitement and a few sleepy commuters looked up in alarm. She sent a silent prayer of thanks to the Goddess of Big Things and then rang Lindy to discuss what she should wear and sing.
“You’ll have to do one of your Tina Turner covers,” Lindy said. “You don’t have time to prepare anything new.”
“I’m so over those songs,” Carla groaned. “But you’re right.”
“Break a leg. Call me straight after,” Lindy said. “And wear something low-cut – if you’ve got it, flaunt it, baby.”
The next day, Carla rang the Arts Council to say she was sick. One of her least favourite colleagues, Glenda, answered the phone.
