Chapter 7

Jasmine Jasmine sat on her couch, trying to read a book but her mind was elsewhere. Her heart fluttered with a mix of excitement and nerves, the thought of brunch with Reece making her stomach twist in anticipation. This was no ordinary brunch. She couldn’t help but think that maybe, just maybe, it could lead to something more—something she had been searching for without even realizing it. Her thoughts wandered as she imagined what the day might bring. Was this just a friendly invitation, or could there be something deeper behind Reece’s charming smile and easy conversation? The idea of him being interested in her still felt surreal. After all, she had never considered herself the type to catch the eye of someone like him—successful, handsome, and seemingly confident. But maybe this was her chance to explore the possibility of something real, something she had only dreamed of in the pages of her romance novels. Realizing she was getting carried away, Jasmine took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. It’s just brunch, she reminded herself. But even as she tried to rein in her excitement, a small voice in the back of her mind whispered that this could be the start of something new. With a flutter of nervous energy, she got off the couch and went to her closet, searching for something to wear. Her fingers brushed against each hanger as she flipped through her wardrobe, frowning at the sight of her usual clothes. Floral blouses, simple skirts, and well-worn jeans filled the space, each outfit feeling more plain and unremarkable than the last. Nothing felt special enough for today. No, this won’t do, she thought with a sigh, closing the closet door. She needed something different, something that would make her feel as beautiful and confident as she wanted to feel around Reece. That meant one thing: a shopping trip. ❛ ━━━━━━・❪ 🎕 ❫ ・━━━━━━ ❜ Jasmine wandered through the small boutique, her fingers skimming over the racks of clothing. She had never been much of a shopper, but today felt like an occasion worth making the effort. After a few minutes of browsing, her eyes landed on the perfect dress—a baby blue sundress, simple yet elegant, with a soft flow that felt just right for the occasion. It was the kind of dress that made her feel feminine and lovely without being too over the top. Smiling to herself, she took the dress off the rack and headed to the register. As she stepped outside the store, the late afternoon sun warmed her skin. She glanced down the street, looking for a cab to take her home. Just as she reached for her phone to call one, a man approached her, his eyes lingering on her a little too long for comfort. “Hey, beautiful,” he said, his voice slick and confident. “Where you headed?” Jasmine tensed, her fingers tightening around the handle of her shopping bag. She wasn’t used to being approached like this, and something about the man’s tone made her uneasy. “I’m just… waiting for a cab,” she said, her voice quiet, hoping the conversation would end quickly. “Why wait for a cab when I could give you a ride?” He stepped closer, his hand brushing lightly against her arm. The touch sent a shiver of discomfort through her, and Jasmine instinctively pulled back, her heart racing. “No, thank you,” she said, her voice firmer this time. She glanced down the street, her eyes searching desperately for a cab, feeling her pulse quicken with each passing second. Before she could step away, the man reached out, his fingers closing around her wrist in a firm grip. “Come on, don’t be like that. Just trying to be nice.” Panic surged through Jasmine, and she yanked her hand free, her breath catching in her throat. At that moment, a cab finally pulled up to the curb. Without a second thought, she darted toward it, her heart pounding as she slid into the backseat and slammed the door behind her. As the cab pulled away, she glanced out the window, her skin still prickling with fear. The man was standing on the sidewalk, watching her with a smirk that made her stomach turn. Jasmine let out a shaky breath, clutching her shopping bag to her chest. The encounter had left her shaken, but she tried to push it from her mind. She didn’t want it to ruin her mood for tomorrow. It’s fine. You’re safe now. Still, she couldn’t help but feel a lingering sense of unease as the cab wound its way back to her apartment. ❛ ━━━━━━・❪ 🎕 ❫ ・━━━━━━ ❜ The next morning, Jasmine stood in front of her mirror, smoothing down the baby blue sundress she had bought the day before. She had paired it with her worn but beloved Mary Jane heels, the soft leather comfortable despite their age. She couldn’t deny that she felt a little more special today, the dress giving her a quiet confidence she hadn’t expected. But beneath the surface, the familiar nerves returned, twisting in her stomach as she thought about seeing Reece again. Would she say the right things? Would he notice her nerves? What if this brunch wasn’t what she hoped it would be? Jasmine took a deep breath and reminded herself that this was just a day out with a man who seemed genuinely kind and interested in getting to know her. There was no need to overthink it. She grabbed her bag and headed out the door, feeling both excited and apprehensive as she made her way to the park where they had agreed to meet. When she arrived at the park, her eyes immediately found Reece standing near the same bench where they had spoken the day before. He was dressed in a casual yet polished outfit—dark trousers and a crisp button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up just enough to reveal his strong forearms. His posture was relaxed, but there was an air of confidence about him that Jasmine found almost magnetic. Her heart skipped a beat as she approached him, her steps light despite the growing butterflies in her stomach. “Hi,” she said, her voice a little breathless. “You look… nice.” Reece smiled warmly, his eyes flicking over her dress with a hint of admiration. “You look beautiful,” he said, his voice low and sincere. “That dress suits you.” Jasmine blushed, her fingers nervously smoothing the fabric of the dress. “Thank you. I’m glad you like it.” Reece gestured to a cab waiting nearby. “Shall we? I’ve booked us a table at one of my favorite spots for brunch. I think you’ll love it.” Jasmine smiled and nodded, letting him lead her to the cab. As they climbed inside, the nerves still fluttered inside her, but she couldn’t shake the sense that something special might be unfolding. Sitting beside Reece, her heart raced with the excitement of possibility, and for the first time in a long time, she felt like she was stepping into something new. Something that, maybe, could be the start of a real love story.
