Chapter 10
Whatever magic had held them over the weekend was gone by Monday night.
Monday Mike went to work, alternating between walking on air because of the amazing weekend and feeling like s**t because he’d gone to bed alone Sunday night and woken up alone Monday morning. Luke was running late and Trevor pulled seniority, so Mike got stuck making phone calls to customers while Trevor did the easy oil changes and air filter changes.
When Luke did arrive, full of grins and excuses, they all knuckled under to change out an engine. By lunch they were sweaty, even with the space heater off, covered in oil and grime, and no closer to having the new engine in. They washed up and ate, all of them feeling grumpy.
