Chapter 16: Broken Promises
Kia didn’t recognize the battered-looking interstellar vessel as they approached, but as soon as the shuttle docked and she stepped inside, an exclamation of surprise escaped her lips. “The Vargsi! How did you—”
“Pavel!” Tíogari bellowed, interrupting her. A minute later a thin dark man emerged from the command center. “The shuttle’s all yours. Thank you for your assistance.”
“Glad we could help, Master Tíogari.” Pavel nodded at Kia and disappeared into the shuttle.
“We needed a pilot,” Tíogari shrugged. “Lord Rial’s instructions were to leave the ship in orbit and use the shuttle to collect you. Current surveillance is far more pervasive than during your previous visit, and he spares nothing for your protection.”
