Mingan's Pov
Whoever created the axiom; love is blind is definitely correct. If not, why would I be finding it hard to believe what Alexa was saying even when, deep down, I could feel the signs. I just stared at her as she fumed, stating reasons why I should doubt Alpha Connor.
But no, I can't just accept what she was saying. My Alpha Connor was a saint, and I chose to believe in the love we once shared… the love I hope we can still share.
“Mingan! Snap out of it for the goddess’ sake! Can't you see what's staring right at you?!” She yelled, making me cover my ears with my hands. Why was she shouting?
“Alexa!” I exclaimed, standing to my feet angrily. “I will not have you tell such lies about my husband!” I slowly calmed myself and then continued. “Can't you see what I'm seeing? He's a devoted husband and…”
“He's not your husband yet, dearest Luna.” She rolled her eyes and continued. “And for what it's worth, I hope you both never get married.”
“Oh my… Alexa!” I said, sincerely hurt that my own best friend would wish such on me. I knew Alpha Connor had been acting weirdly and even suspiciously, but I still love him, and I believed that this too shall pass. I believe whatever it is he was dealing with was just a confidential pack secret that has to be hidden from me. But… But why can't Alexa see that too? Or was I a fool for love?
She walked closer to me and held my hands, squeezing it softly. “My dearest Ming,” she started, calling me by the nickname she gave to me. “You know I love you dearly, and I'd never wish anything bad on you which is why I believe he's not right for you. He's cheating on you and I know it.”
I narrowed my eyes at her, trying hard to fight off her really convincing words. Convincing because I've heard tales of his ‘escapades’ with other women but I just couldn't believe it. He's been nothing but sweet and kind to me, so why should I believe otherwise. He loves me… right?
As if listening to my thoughts, Alexa continued, “If he truly loves you, why would he abandon you on your anniversary, uhn? No calls, no messages. Heck! He's not even picking his calls… Ming, please, wake up already!”
I removed my hands from hers, took a step backwards and thought deeply about what she was saying. What if she's right? What if…
“Let's say hypothetically I believe what you're saying. Alexa, where's the proof? You have nothing to pin on him, so why should I believe you?”
She squeezed her forehead in confusion, something she does whenever she's in deep thoughts. Just as I was about to heave a sigh of relief, glad that she was only speculating, she said; “Proof? I'll get you proof, Ming. Just… just wait here.” She scurried out of my room, leaving me in daze. Did she know what I didn't?
I walked to the balcony of my room as I was welcomed by the cold breeze of the evening. The light from the full moon strangely gave off a certain feeling of romance, adding to the sadness my heart carried.
Where was the man after my heart?
It was our third year anniversary and he was nowhere to be found. I had planned a perfect afternoon picnic and I had gullibly hoped that he would propose to me today but he wasn't even responding to my messages or calls. It stung that I had to cancel the whole thing and be left alone, here in my room that suddenly felt larger than it usually is.
“What if Axela is right about him?” My wolf, Lupe asked.
“No Lupe. My baby would never do such a thing to me. I mean, we're even mated,” I responded to her.
“Yes, but… don't you think he's been acting strangely lately? I mean, ever since you relinquished the ownership and leadership of our pack to him, he's been rather distant and…”
“I said no, Lupe. He'd never hurt us!” I exclaimed loudly, shoving her off but I knew I was only fighting what felt like the truth. I was trying hard to convince myself that they were all wrong.
I wrapped my arms around myself, already exhausted about the whole day. I walked back into my room and made my way to my bed when my phone chimed. I dashed towards it, hoping it was him. I smiled widely as I read the message:
“Hey princess. Sorry I've not been reachable the whole day. Meet me at Wereworld Restaurant. I have a surprise for you.”
I jumped and danced happily, glad that he didn't forget about today. “See, I told you he loves me, Lupe.”
I immediately went to my wardrobe. I transitioned myself into a strikingly beautiful lady in red and I zoomed to the location. However, when I arrived, I was shocked to see the restaurant filled with customers. I knew that Alpha Connor was capable of renting the whole restaurant for the day.
I decided to shrug it off. He remembered, and that's all that mattered.
Sitting on my chair, waiting for the love of my life, I enjoyed the orchestra that played in the background as I sipped my white wine. Slowly, time passed, and I was wondering what was keeping him so long. I thought I was supposed to meet him here.
Instantly, my phone rang, and it displayed Alexa on the line. A part of me wanted to pick the call and inform her that I was in one of the best restaurants in town, waiting for my man, but then, I remembered her last statement to me and opted to ignore her calls, which kept ringing until she sent me a message.
“Go to Room 401 at the Wereworld Hotel now!” I read out loud but decided to ignore again, and then in came another message from her.
“There lies your proof.”
What? What could it be? I shook my head vigorously, fighting away the urge to actually go there. Just a second later, she sent me a picture of Alpha Connor and a lady looking all loved up as they entered the hotel.
I stood up abruptly and stormed towards the hotel which was just a stroll away from the restaurant. Something in me was furious and… curious at the same time. I needed to see what this was all about and I needed to see it now.
“Ma… ma, you can't just walk in like that…” The receptionist called after me as I made my way to the elevator, ignoring her while she ran after me.
Finally, I was in front of room 401. I didn't know what to do or what to expect as my hands began to shake in fear. What if Alexa was right?
Shaking my head, I told myself that maybe they were both planning a surprise and decorating the hotel room for me… right?
I summoned courage and knocked on the door twice.
“There you are! You can't just…” the receptionist started, panting hard in-between her speech. “Security, help…” she continued, referring to a man in black who started to make his way towards me.
The room door flung open and revealed a lady on only a towel, glaring at me and frozen on the spot. I forced my way in and then… I met the most shocking sight ever:
Alpha Connor f*****g a blonde.
