Mingan's Pov
“No, Lupe. Not now,” I said to my wolf who wouldn't just stop stirring inside me. “Besides, he's clearly entangled with someone else. I don't have time for this,” I added.
Lupe gave a small whine that made me feel somewhat sad. I knew she wanted him but I was not ready to engage in any of that. I just got my heart broken by the man I had loved, I wasn't willing to get into anything romantic with a second chance mate. I turned around, attempting to walk away from this supposed second chance at love when his baritone voice halted me on my tracks.
“Wait!” He said and I slightly turned to look at him again.
“Do you know her, baby?” The lady I presumed was his woman said.
He walked up to me, held my hand slowly and spun me around. “You have no idea how long I've been searching for you, damsel.”
“Wha… I…” I was dazed. I never expected such a statement from him and as I looked into his eyes, I could see his longing, I could feel the pull stronger, almost like it was cementing our mate bond… and it was marvelous, impressive even.
“I never thought a day would come that I'd eventually meet my one.” He held my hands, looking love struck as he continued, “I know this isn't so grand but… will you do me the honor of accepting our mate bond?” His smile held hope and his eyes looked pleading, almost like he was begging for this and it amazed me.
I understood this is due to our mate bond but I never envisioned him to be this… sweet. I was moved, infact, Lupe urged me to accept his proposal and I almost did until I remembered how my ex had just thrown away all we had. He had been this sweet and wonderful from the start until he got what he wanted. No, I can't be a fool again, never again.
“I'm sorry… I, Mingan Adolf, rej…”
“Babe…” The lady cut me off as I was about to reject him. She walked up to us and held his arm. “What are you doing? We should go inside, I heard the Alpha is back.”
He irritably looked at her and I took that as my cue to leave, striding to my Benz hastily, especially after I heard that Connor was back. I knew I shouldn't be here. I knew Connor well enough to know that he was not one to take a loss lightly. My rejection might have hurt his ego and if he could hit me before, I can imagine what more he would do because I broke our bond.
Still, I felt his intense gaze behind me like it was stalking me, however, I was not ready or interested in this. I was not ready for a second chance mate. Whatever plan the moon goddess harbored, didn't sit well with me.
Igniting my car, I drove off at a slow pace, trying to reminisce on the beautiful moment I shared in this pack house. This was once my home, it held my joy and solace. Father had handed it over to me as his only heir but I had not cherished it enough to hold onto it. All I felt as I drove out was regret and sadness.
“My lady,” the security at the gate greeted me upon seeing me halt at the gate for inspection. It was a routine I established for safety reasons. “Greetings Luna,” he added, smiling nicely.
“Yes. Open the gates,” I said, returning his smile courteously. He nodded and proceeded to open the gate.
Looking at my rear view mirror, I noticed him talking to someone via his walkie talkie and seeming confused. He turned towards my car, and his expression turned stoic, almost enraged. He stormed towards the gate control and I instantly knew something was wrong. So, before he got to the gate, I zoomed off, watching him through the middle window running after me.
I heaved a sigh of relief on seeing that I lost him. Something told me that Connor had something to do with this. He might have tried to stop me from leaving. My phone chimed beside me and I reached for it, unlocked it and saw a disturbing message from Alexa:
“Run, Ming. Run.”
“What the heck… Lupe, why would she send me such a message?” Lupe was silent. I shrugged it off and kept moving, thinking about my next move as I stepped on my brake because the traffic light turned red.
Suddenly, I saw a truck moving fast towards me. The light of the car was so bright that it almost blinded me and it was moving at full speed towards me. Fear gripped me, I sat frozen, unsure of what to do next because it dawned on me that whoever was behind that wheel was aiming for my life.
“Mingan! Move the damn car!” Lupe exclaimed in my head. I immediately recovered myself and ignited my car, driving to the opposite direction and again, zooming off.
“f**k! What just happened, Lupe?” I asked when I noticed I had lost the truck.
“We just escaped death, Mingan.”
“What? Why? Who would want me dead? I didn't…” I was cut off by another truck which appeared from nowhere.
Next thing I knew was that my car was hit with full force, sending it rolling and tumbling until it landed with a huge thud, falling upside down.
My head was heavy, filled with blood rush as I was bent over in a very uncomfortable manner inside my car, the only thing holding me still was the seat belt. My eyes were blurry and my head hurt. I attempted moving out of the car but I suddenly felt a sharp pain on my thigh. There was a wood that had pierced through my thigh and it hurt so much. I couldn't talk, or scream, the world felt hazy.
“That's what you get for rejecting the Alpha,” came the voice of the driver who towered over me. He turned around and walked back towards his truck. I wanted to talk, to beg for his help but no words came out. I stayed in excruciating pain, watching the truck disappear.
The events of my life flashed over me in nanoseconds. It felt like I was dying and the pain that coast through my body made me weak. A million questions flooded through my mind at that moment.
Why? What did I ever do to Connor to deserve this? Why did he have to end me like this? Was this it? Was this my end?
Maybe it was. Maybe it's even for the best. What have I left to live for? I had lost everything and now… my life? Maybe I should just accept the stretching hands of death. At least I can find peace and rest now.
As I was about to accept this fate of mine and close my eyes, I noticed the foot of someone who stood just outside my car window but I couldn't see who it was. However, I muttered the only words I could before fading into oblivion;
“Help… me.”
