Mingan's Pov I stirred, moving my head to the left in an attempt to shield my eyes from the flashing lights that emanated from the truck. It was moving with speed and it felt like deja vu but this time, I made an attempt to open the door hastily, however, it was locked. I kept trying and trying but it wouldn't budge. Panic kicked in. I started screaming for help, tears spilling down my eyes as the truck kept zooming towards my unmovable car, honking drastically with its blinding lights. Immediately it got closer, I screamed, jolting up from my… sleep? I held onto my chest as realization kicked in. It was just a dream. “Thank the goddess,” I muttered, trying to stabilize my palpitating heart. My eyes landed on my legs and I could see the scar the injury had left. “You're awake!” I heard his familiar voice. I looked towards the left side of the room to see him walking towards me in long strides. He placed his hands on my forehead to supposedly check my temperature. “Hold on, I'll get the doctor,” he added, leaving no room for protest as he walked out of the room. How did I get here? How did he find me? Wait, was he the one I saw last before I went unconscious? Where am I? There were a million other questions that flooded my mind as I looked around the room which screamed luxury, making me wonder who he really was. His aura was powerful and almost domineering, yet he appeared gentle and caring with me, treating me like a fragile egg. But really, who was he? “Miss Mingan, you're awake!” The voice of another man said as he walked into the room with my mate alongside him. “I'm doctor Oniel and I have good news for you,” he added. I looked at my mate who gave me a tight smile with his eyes displaying… sadness? “But before that, I'd check on you right now and then we will get to the good part.” The doctor proceeded to check me as I laid flat on the bed. I was silent all through this process, waiting for the doctor to excuse us so I could ask the questions that reeled in. After he was done, he smiled and looked at me gleefully. “Miss Mingan, you're all good and with just a few hours more rest, you should be as good as new,” he said, packing up his tools. “Now for the good news.” He paused and offered me a genuine smile. “Congratulations, you're three weeks pregnant!” What the actual f**k! I gawked at him in silence. What did I just hear? No, no, no! It can't be. Not now! No… I can't be pregnant for Connor… Not after what he had made me go through. Betraying me, cheating on me, stripping me of all I had, and even trying to kill me… No! “Uhm… Doc, I'll see you out,” my mate said as he led him out. I was still in shock. I was confused. What was I supposed to do with this baby? How did I even allow myself to get this dumb? This would have been good news if Connor had not hurt me so badly. My heart felt constricted as the pain of all I had been through resurfaced in my mind again. I crawled myself in a ball as I wept. “Hey, hey… come here…” he said, stretching his hands towards me. I hadn't heard him come in as I was stuck in my own pain. He walked closer and embraced me from behind. “It's okay… We can walk through this together, damsel. Please stop crying,” he added, but it was as if he gave me the green light to wail because I did. He remained still, whispering sweet nothings to me as I cried bitterly. I was hurt, and I knew that I was slowly driving to the part of myself I didn't like, the part that wants revenge. I wanted to hurt Connor so bad for making me into this, for making my life miserable. I wanted him to pay so bad that it even hurt my heart. “Damsel,” he called after I had calmed down a bit. “I just got a message from my Beta about an emergency meeting. Your maid will attend to all your needs as soon as I leave. I'll be back real soon but please, just wait for me, okay?” He said while I nodded. He stood up to leave but I held his hand, stopping him from moving further. “What… what's your name?” I asked him. “Iris. Lycan Iris Boris,” he said, smiling and revealing his perfect dentition and dimples which stirred something within me, almost making me blush. “I know you've got questions for me and I promise to answer them once I'm back, okay?” I nodded and released him as he left but not without giving me one last glance. I decided to go wash up and so I used the restroom, my mind still thinking of what to do about this baby. On getting out, I saw them, glaring at me. “Hmm, so it's you, uhn?” A lady that had a striking resemblance to Lycan Iris said. Beside her, was the lady from the other night who called Iris babe. “Uhm… Who?” “Oh, shut it! She is the slut, Lady Megan. The slut that wants to take my man!” said the lady from the other night. “You've got nothing to worry, Tala. She's not even fit to be compared to you,” The Lady Megan said, looking at me condescendingly. She walked closer to me, intimidating me as she added, “You will pack your dump and leave this manor this instant! Or I swear, what Connor did to you will not stand a chance to be compared with what I will do to you.” “What… I… didn't… I…” the shock I had from hearing her call Connor's name turned me into a stuttering mess. What did she know about me? Why was she this cruel? “You heard her b***h! Leave!” Tala exclaimed. “You think you can waltz in here and take away my Iris? I don't give a f**k if you're mated or not, you filthy thing. I've stayed by him, showered him with love and affection, believing he would see me one day and you think just because you have a stupid bond then you can walk into my home and claim him? Get lost now or I'll finish what your useless ex started,” Tala added, looking rather pissed. I was stunned. I didn't ask to be here. I didn't even want anything to do with the Lycan. Why were they accusing me of trying to steal him away? What's their deal? Why all the hate towards me? I didn't even do anything wrong. “You know, I know of a very competent body parts harvester who will even have more need for that bastard growing inside you and if you chose to be stubborn about my order, you might as well stay but we can't guarantee your safety, Mingan,” Lady Megan said, smirking before turning on her heels and leaving with her friend. I stood frozen on the spot as my eyes widened. Body parts harvester? What? Yes, I've heard several tales of such persons but I never thought they were true. I wanted to call their threats bluff but I remembered the look in their eyes, they were serious and they meant every word they said. I wasn't in for anymore drama and even if I wanted to obey Lycan Iris and stay, I knew it was best I leave. So, I dressed up and headed out, not looking back. “Where to ma’am?” the taxi driver asked as I settled into the cab I had booked. “Any hotel far away from here.” The ride was rather fast and swift but I was grateful for it. It was already evening and I knew I just needed to catch a sleep. Tomorrow, I'll come up with a plan. I unlocked the door to my hotel room with the key the receptionist had given me and was met with the last person I wanted to see. “Well, well, well. Look who the cat dragged in,” Connor said.
