CHAPTER THREE
Sebastene's POV
I was genuinely convinced that the only person who could effectively explain the reason I was racing down the curvy highway chasing a sports car—the make of which I didn't even know—with a nineteen-year-old in it, was whoever created the universe and specifically the one who created the nineteen-year-old minion in question.
After I refused to "take him" to the party, Marcus had bolted out of my room in a mad frenzy, and a few seconds later, before I could even put on my shirt, he was in the car and speeding towards the property gate. It took me a moment to put myself together and give chase, and now I was speeding at breakneck speed. Thank God I took expert driving classes, because he seemed to know his way around cars.
Gritting my teeth, I stepped down hard on the accelerator and closed up behind him, aiming to give him a little bump on the rear, but he must have seen that because he swerved suddenly to the right, missing me by a huge fraction.
"f*****g i***t!" With my fist still clenched, I sped up again and I was able to get to the driver's side of his car, honking madly and praying I didn't crash into any vehicle at this breakneck speed.
I honked one last time and he rolled down his window with a huge smile lining his boyish face.
His boyishly handsome look would have been a delight to behold if I wasn't speeding down the highway like a maniac. I threw him the middle finger.
"Slow down, Marcus, so we can talk about this," I yelled. He gave me a questioning look.
"What?"
"I said slow the f*****g car down and get your stupid self out so we can talk about the goddamn situation!"
He shook his head, still grinning, and shouted back, "Sorry, Sebastene... I can't be chained." And with that, he sped off.
I was dazed. Did he just speed away? Why was I even chasing him? He was old enough to fend for himself.
Suddenly, I didn't care what anyone would say. I decided to give up the chase and go back to the mansion. My life wasn't worth this spoiled nepo baby. I hit the brake a little bit. I was going too fast and the car couldn't stop before the next cross section.
Everything happened in slow motion.
An oncoming car trying to turn the corner swerved violently to avoid the speeding Marcus, turned and hit the car directly in front of my car, and then they both slammed with force into my car on the driver's side.
I felt time slow in that instant before the cars slammed into me. The airbag inflated seconds after my head hit the steering wheel.
The sound of shattering glass filled my ears, and then came the sharp pain of metal digging into my waist and thighs.
Oh s**t, I thought. Then there was darkness.

Marcus's POV
I watched it happen from the rearview mirror.
It was some kind of chain reaction that happened so fast that it was over in what seemed like a second to me.
First, we were wheezing past a driver who was trying to make a turn with Stephen screaming excitedly in the passenger seat. Suddenly, I heard a screeching sound from somewhere behind us and I looked in the rearview mirror just in time to see two cars slam with speed and force into the driver's side of the car Sebastene was driving.
I watched as her car was thrown to the other side of the road and came to a halt just beside the pavement.
I slammed to a halt in the middle of the road, this time narrowly missing the rear end of a car and nearly causing another chain accident.
My blood ran cold and panic spread across my body.
"Oh s**t. Oh s**t. Oh shit." Stephen kept repeating, obviously dazed. He didn't seem drunk anymore as he seemed to take in what just happened.
I jumped out of the car and ran back to the scene of the accident, my heart thumping in my chest.
A few cars had stopped by, and there were people standing around, all in shock.
I got to the side of Sebastene's car and tried pulling the door open, but it was seriously damaged and would need to be pried open.
At this point, I was alarmed beyond measure. Sirens were heard from afar and I kept praying for them to get closer.
I gave up on the door and reached inside the car, cupping her face. She looked deathly pale. My heart nearly knocked itself out of my body.
"Is she dead?!"
"Shut up, Steph!"
"Oh s**t!"
I watched her intently and noticed one of the fingers on her right hand twitch ever so slightly. Relief poured into me and it gave me gusto.
"Sebastene! Listen to me!" The sirens were getting closer. Come on, hurry. Hurry. Hurry.
"Sebastene, I'm sorry."
The ambulance got to the scene. I turned to them.
"We'll take it from here, sir. We need you to step back." I was still dazed and I moved in a zombie-like motion.
I watched as they tried to pull the car door, but it didn't budge. Instead, it caused Sebastene to lean unconsciously on the door, and only then did I notice the flow of blood that trickled down the side of the car.
I felt sick to my stomach.
"Sir? Are you okay?" a female cop said gently beside me.
"She's my bodyguard."
"You people were attacked?"
I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat. Would it hurt if I just denied it? I looked around and I didn't recognize anybody that I could say was here from the beginning. But you never can tell, right?
In the distance, I could see Stephen with another cop, talking frantically like the words were going to choke him and he had to get them out quickly. I swallowed again and turned to the cop.
"No, we weren't. She was chasing me. I caused this." The officer led me away to their car, but from the corner of my eyes I saw Sebastene being laid on a stretcher, before I was led into the car
